    Position Description

    TheDepartment of Counseling, Leadership, Adult Education, and School Psychology ( CLAS ) i (https://www.txst.edu/clas.html) n the College of Education at Texas State University, a Hispanic-Serving Institution ( HSI ) located in San Marcos, Texas, invites applications for a tenure-earning assistant professor position of Professional Counseling beginning August 2026. This position involves teaching, research, service, and program support in a vibrant master’s program in Central Texas. Specific responsibilities include teaching courses in Professional Counseling, maintaining an active and productive program of research, engaging in external funding submissions, and providing service to the program, department, university, and profession.

     

    Program:The Professional Counseling Program is CACREP -accredited in three specialty areas: Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling; and School Counseling. This position will include teaching core courses in our counseling program, with a particular focus on teaching MCFC Theories, Current Issues in MCFC , Assessment and Treatment in MCFC , MCFC -based clinical courses, and other courses in the CACREP core as needed. The successful candidate will be headquartered on the main university campus in San Marcos and will teach courses on both the main university campus in San Marcos and at the university’s Round Rock campus.

     

    Department:The CLAS Department serves approximately 975 students seeking undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in Professional Counseling ( COUN ), Educational and Community Leadership ( EDCL ), Adult, Professional, and Community Education ( APCE ), School Psychology ( SPSY ), Student Affairs in Higher Education ( SAHE ), and Integrated Studies ( INTS ). The CLAS Department provides high quality undergraduate and graduate education to promote significant transformational changes in communities, schools, organizations, and institutions locally and globally. Guided by expert faculty who are deeply engaged in innovative research and dedicated to student success, CLAS students grow into leaders and changemakers in schools, communities, and organizations across Texas and beyond.     University:Founded in 1899 as a small teaching college, Texas State University is now home to over 40,000 students. Texas State University is located along the beautiful San Marcos River.     Required Qualifications

    Required qualifications for Assistant Professor rank:

    + An earned doctorate in Counselor Education by employment date of August 2026

    + A record of, or demonstration of the potential for, research and publication at the national and/or international levels

    + A record of, or demonstration of the potential for, securing external funding for research

    + A professional clinical license (e.g., Licensed Professional Counselor [ LPC ], Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist [ LMFT ]) or a provisional clinical license (e.g., LPC Associate, LMFT Associate) with a plan in place to complete the professional license in the State of Texas within two years

    + A demonstrated record of training and experience in marriage, couple, and family counseling

    Preferred Qualifications

    Preferred qualifications for Assistant Professor rank:

    + A documented record of securing external funding for research

    + Experience teaching core courses in a CACREP -accredited program in the teaching areas listed above

    + Designation as a clinical supervisor (e.g., LPC -S, LMFT -S) and experience providing clinical supervision in an academic and/or clinical setting
