Job Duties – Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to:
+ Perform construction surveys to assure accurate and timely calculations and construction control.
+ Performs calculations to check plans for errors and computer survey staking notes.
+ Performs all aspects of lead work to ensure the survey crew meets timeframes established by project needs.
+ Lead and direct other members of the survey crew which may include a Transportation Generalist Senior/Transportation Generalist or student worker.
+ Operate and oversee the operation of a total station and Global Positioning System receivers in the field to collect data accurately.
+ Conduct land survey research, field work, and documentation thoroughly and accurately.
+ Oversees all aspects of control surveys (horizontal, vertical, and photogrammetric) so that control is maintained in a timely manner.
+ Set up, use and maintain survey equipment so that they crew has equipment functioning properly.
+ Prepare, process, and evaluate all types of survey data for location and construction surveys from the survey crew.
+ Operate computers using CADD drafting and computational software so that maps and other products are produced in a timely manner.
+ Facilitate the maintenance of survey records and data files to ensure future accessibility resulting in cost savings on future projects.
+ Respond to requests for survey data and related information from internal/external customers providing the requested information.
+ Provide assistance to other crew chiefs creating electronic files for construction staking.
Minimum Qualifications
A valid Class D driver’s license.
The level of experience to perform this job at the TS level can be achieved with:
+ Four years of experience performing surveys (e.g., land, location, construction, and/or geodetic control surveys, etc.), mapping or related activities.
OR
+ Three years experience performing surveys (e.g., land, location, construction, and/or geodetic control surveys, etc.), mapping or related activities PLUS a combination of one year of experience performing roadway inspection, design, or related activities.
+ Note:A two-year Civil Technology Degree or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience listed above (in order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).
+ Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous MnDOT experience working as a laborer, Transportation Associate, Transportation Generalist, or Transportation Generalist Senior.
