    */Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission Job Posting/* * * *Job Title: Compliance Agent, Division of Police Standards* *Reports to: Director of Police Standards* *_OVERVIEW OF THE AGENCY AND THE POSITION_**__* The Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission is an independent agency that oversees law enforcement departments and officers throughout the Commonwealth. The Commission is charged with the following: * Establishing certification standards for law enforcement departments and officers; * Determining whether those standards have been met; * Developing regulations and policies governing law enforcement; * Decertifying, suspending, or ordering retraining for officers who commit misconduct or otherwise fail to satisfy requirements; * Maintaining, analyzing, and disseminating information regarding law enforcement; and * Conducting investigations, adjudicatory proceedings, and public hearings regarding such matters. The Commission is governed by, and enforces, Chapter 6E of the Massachusetts General Laws. Pursuant to that statute, the Commission collaborates with the Commonwealth’s Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) in several areas of its work. The POST Commission is looking for an individual to join the Division of Police Standards as a Compliance Agent. *_POSITION FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES_* The Compliance Agent will work within the Division of Police Standards and perform all duties relative to the investigation of complaints filed with the Commission by members of the public and/or transmitted to the Commission by law enforcement agencies as required by Massachusetts law. The Compliance Agent will also be responsible for conducting interviews of witnesses and the subjects of preliminary inquiries, as well as obtaining and reviewing documents and other information as part of confidential preliminary inquiries. The Division conductsinvestigations in a confidential, fair, and impartial manner, according to standard policies and procedures, to ensureadherence to statutory requirements and compliance with regulations and standards set forth by the Commission for certified police officers and law enforcement agencies in the Commonwealth. *Please note that per M.G.L. c. 6E, § 8, no employee of the Division of Police Standards shall have previously been employed as a law enforcement officer, previously employed by a law enforcement agency or be a retired law enforcement officer or retired from a law enforcement agency. This provision does not apply to former federal law enforcement officers or former law enforcement officers from jurisdictions outside of Massachusetts. * Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: * Investigate allegations of police misconduct. The Compliance Agent will work under the supervision of Enforcement Counsel assigned to the Division of Police Standards in conducting preliminary inquiries,as set forth by statute and regulations. Responsibilities include, among other things, gathering and securing evidence, reviewing and analyzing records, locating and interviewing witnesses, reviewing audio and visual recordings, searching open-source databases, testifying in preliminary inquiries and/or administrative hearings as needed, and preparing detailed investigative reports for the Division. * Review and document complaints submitted to the Division and/or the POST Commission by law enforcement agencies and members of the public, and alert the leadership of the Division of Police Standards to any complaint which appears to require immediate action. * Maintainopen communication and work with other operational divisions and external agencies as necessary. * Demonstrateinitiative, ingenuity, resourcefulness, and judgment required to identify, collect, and assemble facts and other pertinent data. * Possessthe ability to think logically and objectively, to analyze and evaluate facts, evidence, and related information, and arrive at sound conclusions. * Acceptresponsibility for the quality and timeliness of work and meeting expectations.** * Reportto the Commission’s Boston office at least two days per week and as otherwise directed. * Perform other duties as requested. *__* *_INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLYING_* To be considered for the position, apply throughMassCareersby*July 31, 2025*, and include a*cover letter, a resume, and at least one writing sample reflecting your own work*.
