Job Description
The Director for Student Well-Being oversees the Office of Student Well-Being and reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Development. This position will support the achievement of the College’s vision of serving as a regional leader in education and workforce development, offering transformative programs that drive individual growth and shared prosperity. The Director will enact the transformative mission of community colleges by engaging students with cultural competence and a deep understanding of the diverse communities we serve.
In collaboration with key internal and external partners, the Director will design, implement, and assess holistic wellbeing initiatives that address barriers and support academic success, personal growth, and resilience. The incumbent is responsible for program development, case management, resource development, community outreach, training, and advocacy. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to; transition, physical and mental health, student safety, personal crisis, financial emergencies, and integration into campus life. While overseeing these activities the Director will ensure compliance with College policies and external regulations.
The Director does not provide therapy; rather, the incumbent will help facilitate access to, and appropriate utilization of, College and/or community services while guiding students toward appropriate self-care, self-management, and self-advocacy. This position requires a strong understanding of student wellbeing support systems and would benefit from a licensed mental health professional with credentials such as LCSW, LCMFT, or LCPC.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education
Master’s Degree in counseling, human services, social work, psychology or related field
Required Experience
+ Minimum of three years of student wellbeing support systems experience to include working with or supporting people in high need and conducting crisis intervention
+ Minimum of one year of supervisory experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
+ Proficient in assessing, analyzing, and evaluating the effectiveness of student services
+ Proficient in the use of technology, particularly Microsoft 365
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Ability to travel to various locations across Harford County and surrounding areas
+ Ability to work with sensitive and complex situations in a professional and confidential manner
+ Comprehensive knowledge of current state and federal laws and regulations, practices, and procedures, identified best practices, and trends in the field of higher education related to student care
+ Understanding of wellness and prevention, including mental health, nutrition, physical fitness, and stress management
+ Ability to train others effectively
+ Strong public speaking skills
+ Initiative and resourcefulness
+ Ability to coordinate workflow while managing multiple projects and deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
+ LCMFT, LCPC, LMSW or LCSW
+ Community college experience
+ Experience in student affairs at higher education institution
+ Grant experience
+ Maxient experience
+ Ellucian Banner experience
**Hours per Week** 40 - 100%
General Weekly Work Schedule
This is an on-site position with a standard schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required based on the operational needs of the College.
