Job Summary

Come put your courses into practice while you work for the Utah Nanofab Cleanroom in a real science and engineering environment. This position provides a unique opportunity to learn advanced, marketable engineering skills and is ideal for undergraduates pursuing studies in all engineering fields as well as chemistry, and physics.

Many of our graduates are working for semiconductor companies such as Intel, Micron, and TexasInstruments. The Nanofab Cleanroom regularly works with faculty research projects from across campus and the successful candidate would get to interact with adverse set of research projects in every major engineering and science discipline. Students would also be exposed to a variety of industry research projects and have the opportunity to network with representatives from leading technology companies. The successful candidate will assist with the daily operations of the Cleanroom, with a focus on supporting the researchers by maintaining and restocking cleanroom supplies, chemicals, and gases. Students will learn from the full-time engineering staff of the lab, and will report to them directly for guidance and supervision. Job duties will also involve routine maintenance of advanced instruments and assisting users with the lab. This is an entry level position and on-the-job training is provided. The ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions, the ability to keep accurate records, strict adherence to and knowledge of safety protocols, demonstrated human relations, and effective communication skills are required. A general knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment and terminology; the ability to operate and care for laboratory equipment; and a knowledge of appropriate chemical handling techniques preferred. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Responsibilities

Assist engineers with daily operations of Utah Nanofab Cleanroom, including inspection, care, and cleaning of laboratory equipment; organizing and restocking supplies, and maintaining orderly and clean gowning areas. Assist lab users with questions regarding safety and user policies, lab access, and computer logging system.

During the first year, the student will be directly supporting operations. As the student progresses, more responsibilities will be given to operate and/or repair advanced cleanroom equipment, including periodic process monitoring runs for performance trend charting. Nearly Continuously: Office & Cleanroom environment.

Often: A variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving equipment and supplies, electrical current, or exposure to gasses and chemicals.

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing),walking, standing, sitting.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: General knowledge of lab safety and cleanroom procedures. Mechanical ability to operate and care for lab equipment preferred. Demonstrated computer skills and effective communication skills with good customer service are required.

Preferences

Undergraduate students in Engineering and Science are preferred. Also preference given to:

+ Work-study eligible

+ Ability to commit to 15+ hours per week, with a flexible schedule during business hours

+ Demonstrated interest in a career within micro-scale devices such as MEMS or semiconductor devices

+ Interest manifest as a desire to remain in this job during the course of the undergraduate academic program
