LOCATIONS:
Thornton Community Center
Carpenter Recreation Center
Trail Winds Recreation Center
DAYS/HOURS:
Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Minimal nights and weekends for special events and meetings
Under general supervision, assists the Recreation Program Specialist-Preschool Director with teaching classes and leading Early Childhood staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists with setup, preparation and planning of preschool classes for children two-and-a-half to six years of age.
Responsible for developing and implementing curriculum and services for children two-and-a-half to six years of age.
Teaches or assists in teaching curriculum in the classroom.
Works with families and staff to develop family plans and communicate modifications, adaptations, and needs.
Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of preschool equipment.
Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, leading, mentoring, and supporting Early Childhood Teachers.
Enforces safety standards and regulations throughout the program to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
Ensures all possible safety measures are observed, including safety training and drills, illness logs, and communication with site staff and families.
Communicates and enforces facility and classroom policies and procedures.
Responds to emergency situations as required and maintains accurate accident and incident reports.
Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with parents to answer questions and resolve problems.
Complies with city and departmental rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
Reports parental, child and staff issues and concerns to supervisor.
Assists with administrative responsibilities including site meetings; filing; enrollment and attendance tracking and paperwork; budget planning and management; book orders; staff performance documentation and feedback; Colorado Shines, UPK, ELDG, and assessment documentation; communication with families; managing work hours; coordination of family engagement, program events and activities; collaborating with partner organizations; quality assurance; maintaining supplies and storage.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Must have a current State of Colorado Large Center Director qualification letter or a current Colorado Version 3.0 Early Childhood Professional Credential level III or higher.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department.
Knowledge of basic preschool classroom procedures.
Knowledge of basic child care principles.
Skill in performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Standard Precautions activities.
Skill in the safe and healthy operations of a classroom.
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and staff.
Ability to effectively lead and coordinate staff and children’s activities.
Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
Ability to listen well and communicate effectively with children two-and-a half to six years of age.
Ability to listen well and communicate effectively with parents, coworkers and supervisor.
Ability to promote and provide quality preschool education.
Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate, First Aid certification and Standard Precautions certification or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire. Current health statement (physical) required.
Large Child Care Center Director qualified with the State of Colorado.
May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and make repetitive motions. This job consists of light work; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness or the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures. The employee must demonstrate the ability to remain calm during routine and stressful conditions. The employee is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, and noise.
