The ELC Fellow, Advanced Technology will lead breakthrough innovation in support of impactful future ingredients and technologies across the skincare and make-up categories that are strategically anchored in the brand equity and DNA of Clinique and Dermatological Brands. This role will identify new opportunities by leveraging internal assets, external innovation sources, as well as from academic and medical institutions. The role will also secure IP for new technologies and publish new findings in scientific and trade journals. This individual will thoughtfully partners with peers to deploy existing or develop novel methods to prove the utility and fit of new breakthrough beauty care technologies with a focus on dermatological science. Lastly, this individual will represent Clinique and ELC’s Dermatological Brands at key global dermatological conferences, press events with influencers, Dermatologists, editors and retailers.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Upstream Technology and Conceptual Brainstorming
+ Ingredient scouting and research; Validation in partnership with peers in Advanced Technology
+ Advising and Guiding Formulating Chemists
+ Contribute to the development of the Clinical Plan
+ Scientific spokesperson for Clinique and Dermatological Brands with Medical Community, Press, Influencers/Creators, Retailers.
Detailed Responsibilities
+ Lead large and complex technical solutions that bring newness to the industry in the most advanced ways, and that have the most significant impact on the business.
+ Fosters strong collaborations with internal and external partners and experts from the industry, academia and the medical community.
+ Ensures data received from external parties are properly vetted, and communicated to the internal partners for subsequent steps of validation and transfer to brands.
+ Ensures complex science and scientific concepts are translated into simple and relevant messaging, Reason to Believe statements, which can be easily understood and utilized by the Brand to describe consumer benefits.
+ Partners with peers within the Advanced Technology or Clinical teams to develop protocols for measuring the efficacy of cosmetic products on the skin
+ Strategically collaborate with the brand to develop white space trends, relevant to the market and rooted in the brand equity, that are then vetted and proven through clinical trials.
+ Define the direction of future innovation in support of the Company’s strategic goals.
+ Encourages skill development and professional growth through collaborative internal and external relationships.
+ Collaborate with cross functional teams such as Formulation, Clinical, Regulatory, Safety and Supply Chain, to ensure new technologies are cascaded clearly and precisely.
+ Utilize key IP tools to protect proprietary content including Non-Disclosure Agreements, Master Service Agreements, SOWs, results ownership, and/or patent applications.
+ Lead patent search, draft IP strategy, invention records, support claim documents for patent disclosures/applications filing that maximizes technology protection.
Basic Requirements, Qualifications and Competencies:
+ Ph.D. in physical, cellular, molecular, chemical, material, biophysical sciences with 20 years operational experience in beauty care related industries.
+ Proven experience working closely with the Derm community.
+ Ability to lead training in the use of laboratory instruments and methods for skin penetration studies.
+ Strong rigor in applied sciences and creativity, curiosity, and judgment.
+ Track record of scientific publications.
+ Advanced presentation/communication skills, previous media training.
+ Excellent critical thinking, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
+ Domestic and international travel - up to 25%, plus attends strategic dermatological and ophthalmology conferences worldwide.
Technical Competencies:
+ Published and recognized in the industry as global technical leaders in their field. Serves as technical advisor to senior leadership. Partners with peers at VP level to define strategic direction of future innovative capabilities. Continues to supply cutting edge concepts.

+ Sponsors strategic industry partnerships. Encouraging skill development, collaboration, and professional growth within technical teams. Consistent application of emotional intelligence and sound judgment fostering a supportive, collaborative work environment and making thoughtful decisions under pressure.
