Description:
GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:
Under the direct supervision of the SARMC Lab Manager, assists in the planning, managing, coordinating, executing, and supporting the activities of the regional microbiology process and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree with Medical Laboratory Science, bachelor’s in microbiology required.
5 years of experience working in a Clinical Laboratory. Medical Laboratory Science certification is required in one of the following:
• Medical Technologist (MT),
• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS),
• Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS),
or an equivalent certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
Experience with Cerner, Sunquest, and EPIC applications preferred.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
+ Effectively communicates, both verbally and in writing, with department coordinator, pathologists, local site laboratory managers, co-workers, clients, vendors, nurses, and clinicians to ensure optimum department performance.
+ Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Must have experience in human relations, teams, communications, and project management.
+ Provides feedback and technical instruction to the staff where needed for improvement.
+ Keeps lab manager(s) informed of problems.
+ Communicate changes to policies and procedures to staff (within the system), by email, memos or at staff meetings.
+ Ensures that safety regulations are met. Inform the lab manager(s) when safety regulations are not met, or new safety issues arise.
+ Pro-active in problem solving and planning needs of the SAHS Laboratories.
+ Writes operating, maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting procedures for laboratory tests. Trains employees to perform maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting. Performs in-depth troubleshooting procedures; determines extent of problems and takes appropriate action to Ensure workflow and quality of results. Delegates any or all the above as determined by manager.
+ Directs assay development procedures for new assays to meet CLIA regulations.
+ Organizes and presents completed development data to lab manager for review.
+ Performs preliminary instrument evaluations. Assists lab manager on new equipment proposals.
+ Sits on the Trinity system Microbiology meetings and coordinates work of assigned projects within the system.
+ Develops training and evaluation guidelines for new employees. Consults with lab manager and provides feedback regarding performance of new employees.
+ Monitors quality of work performed in the lab by all employees in Microbiology. Ensures that policies and procedure are followed. Communicates new policies and procedures to lab employees and ensures that required training is completed and documented.
+ Assists Microbiology Technical Leads in training new hires and new procedure implementation.
+ Ensure compliance with Quality control to affect highest quality patient care.
+ Determines acceptability of microbiology and molecular specimens and results. Interprets and reads cultures, performs susceptibility testing and results them accordingly using M100 guidelines and CAP requirements
+ Ensure compliance w/ Quality Control & Quality Assurance Programs including POCT, to affect highest quality patient care.
