    Job Summary and Qualifications

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Functionsas an integral member of the unit-based care delivery teamby performing a variety of technical components essential to the ongoing delivery of quality patient care.Performsa variety of generic and population-specific technical activities, which support the delivery ofoptimalpatient carewhilemaintainingthe highestlevel of patient safety.To completeappropriate unit-basedelements of EKG processes and/or phlebotomy.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Performs a variety of direct patient care activities, which fall within the scope of LNA practice as defined by the State Board of Nursing and Catholic Medical Center Nursing Organization policies and procedures.

    1. Utilizes basic knowledge of growth and development and awareness of age-appropriate care, to provide care for patients across the life span.

    1. Assists the Registered Nurse, or physician to perform selected patient care activities or tasks asappropriate.

    1. Reports all observations, symptoms, deviations from normal, and changes in patient’s condition to the Registered Nurse.

    1. Performs patient rounds, responds to patient call bellspromptlyand communicates withappropriate staffto meet patient needs.

    1. Provides basic support to patients and families in response toidentifiedpsychosocial needs and cultural and religious preferences.

    1. Performs orassistspatientin the completion of activities of daily living.Assistsnursing staff with patient ambulation, transfers, range of motion and repositioning as required.

    1. Anticipates patient needs and askspatientaboutneedfor toileting, fluid, nutrition, comfortmeasures.Maintains patient privacy and dignity.

    1. Participates in admittingpatientby bringingpatienttoroomand orientspatienttosurroundings.

    1. Documents in selected areas of the medical record, asappropriate, according to policies and procedures.

    1. Performs 12-lead Electrocardiograms (EKG) as directed.

    1. Emergency Department: Mustperform 12-lead Electrocardiogram (EKG) within ten minutes of receiving notification.

    1. Assistswith patient transport asrequiredandassistin transporting/obtaining medications, specimens, blood products, and patient care supplies as needed.

    1. Ensures safe patient movement byutilizingappropriate liftingequipment/transfer devices.

    1. Collaboratively works with multidisciplinary team,maintainsgood communication;establishesand maintains positive working relationships with patients and families, co-workers, and the public.

    1. Ability todemonstratecourtesy,compassionand respect inrelatingto patients, families, visitors,physiciansand coworkers.

    1. Acts as a resource and educates unit staffregardingrelevant clinical practices and procedures.Participates in orientation ofnew staff. Performs as preceptor whenrequested.

    1. Incorporates safety principles,policiesand procedures into daily practice.Followsall infection control/Standard Precautions policies.

    1. Ensures confidentiality of allpatient, employee, legal, budget, and Catholic Medical Center matters.

    1. Ascertainsappropriate patientpreparation for laboratory and diagnostic exams.

    1. Performs Capillary Blood Glucose (CBG) monitoring,as delegated, then downloadstheinformation intothe patient’s electronic medical record.

    1. Stockscartsand ensures equipment is cleaned after use.

    1. Participates in routine unit-based quality monitoring activities such as crash cart/defibrillator checks and blood glucosemonitorquality control (QC).

    1. Participates in restocking department inventory and supplies.Orders andmaintainssuppliesin accordance withunit par levels.Checksexpirationdate of supplies andimmediatelyremoves outdated material andreport’sfindings to RN.

    1. Exercisescare in the operation and use of equipment and reference materials.Performs routine cleaning and preventative maintenance to ensure continued functioning of equipment. Reports problems with equipment and supplies to RN and followsEnvironmentof Care Defective Equipment policy.Maintains work areas in a clean,safeand organized manner.

    1. Participates in activities to promote improved patient care.Makes suggestions to improve the quality of patient care and services and the functioning of the department. Verbalizes the impact of process improvement projects in relation to role.

    1. Demonstrates awareness of and practices cost-effective use of resources.

    1. Performs designated direct care and environmental duties based upon unit needs.

    1. Care reflects knowledge of, and support of, the mission statement of Catholic Medical Center and of the unit.

    1. Carries outappropriate dutiesin all hospital codes, other emergency situations, and fire/disaster drills.

    1. Demonstrates accountability formaintainingcurrent credentials and competency in required skills.Demonstrates self-direction in pursuing opportunities for role-related growth and development.Utilizes the self-evaluation process for career development.Ability to accept constructive feedback andinitiateappropriate actionsto correct situations.

    1. Ability to perform all activities outlined in the department specific orientation guidelines.

    1. Willingness to identify and take action toward meeting own learning needs.

    1. Attends staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.

    1. Seeksand accepts other duties as work is completed.

    1. Conforms toattendance requirements.

    1. Performs similar or related duties asrequiredor directed.

    What qualifications you will need:

    Education:

    + High school diploma or equivalent.

    Experience:

    + LevelI –LNA or EMT experience

    + Level II – LNA, EMT or AEMT experience

    + EKG, Phlebotomy experience

    + Level III – AEMT experience

    + Plusexperiencerequiredfor Level I and II

    + Minimum of 1 year of experience with CMC ED

    + Basic computer keyboarding and data entry skillsrequired.

    + Requires the ability to utilize and navigate electronic clinical documentationsystemin order to enter patient data.

    Licensure/Certification:

    + Current registration in the State of New Hampshire as a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) and / or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT/AEMT certification.

    + BLS certified.If not BLS certified, mustobtainAmerican Heart Association (AHA)BLScertification prior to completion of orientation, not to exceed21 daysfrom date of hire with Catholic Medical Center.MustmaintainBLSthroughoutemployment.

    Unit Specific Certification/Programs:

    Basic Dysrhythmia Class/Exam:

    + Must obtainwithin 6 months of date of hire.

    + Must have completed and passed the Basic Dysrhythmia Program course offered through CMC.

    + Mustmaintaincompetenciesthroughout employment.

    Specimen Collection/Phlebotomy Program:

    + Must have completed and passed the Specimen Collection/Phlebotomy Program course offered through CMC.

    + Mustmaintaincompetencies throughout employment.
