Job Description
Insight Global's client is a top defense contractor that offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. They also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Their customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Systems Administrator is responsible for the planning, implementation, security, and maintenance of the organizations IT infrastructure. This role serves as a technical expert and mentor within the IM team, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of enterprise systems while contributing to strategic initiatives and technology improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and manage enterprise systems including servers, storage, virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure), and email systems (e.g., Exchange).
Lead infrastructure projects including system upgrades, migrations, and integrations.
Optimize system performance, monitor capacity, and proactively address potential issues and bottlenecks.
Ensure high availability, business continuity, and disaster recovery planning and execution.
Harden systems against security threats; apply updates, patches, and configuration best practices.
Collaborate with security and compliance teams to support audits, access controls, and policy enforcement.
Develop and maintain detailed documentation, including network diagrams, system configurations, and SOPs.
Automate repetitive tasks using scripts or infrastructure-as-code practices (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Ansible).
Provide technical support and guidance to IM staff.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and standards to improve infrastructure reliability and efficiency.

Skills and Requirements
- 5+ years of experience within system administration and infrastructure engineering
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
- Windows server experience
- MS Exchange they run exchange on prem (not online) - must be able to manage DMX record, AMX record moves, deal with mail flow, send and receive connectors, setting up email policy in exchange servers, server administration side, they have Proofpoint on exchange too
- Strong experience with virtualization (e.g., VMware vSphere/ESXi, Hyper-V), storage systems, and backup solutions. migrate live systems within hosts, heartbeat monitoring, SAN Cluster
- Run mainly AWS EC2 set up VC2 instances, AMI backups, set up new EBS values
- Harden servers
- Veeam experience for backups
- UPS - SSL Cert management
- Some Linux highly preferred, its prebuilt (rocky linux 8.10)
- Proficiency in scripting for automation (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- Familiarity with networking, firewalls, VPNs, and security hardening.
- Any Fortinet experience
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, AWS SysOps Administrator, VCP, or CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+).
- Experience with infrastructure automation and DevOps tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins).
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, HIPAA, SOC 2, ISO 27001). null
