The Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs ( ADCA ) at UT Rio Grande Valley ( UTRGV ) School of Optometry has an essential role in the school and is responsible for overseeing all clinical operations to include clinic and clinical education. This position is integral to the establishment and management of the optometry program. The ADCA will help establish a clinic designed to focus on problem-based aptitudes of the students within the program. The ADCA will develop and monitor clinical operations, clinical policy, compliance, and the externship program. The ADCA will work closely with the Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in developing the mission, goals and objectives of the school, as they relate to clinical education. In addition, they will work with the entire executive team of the UTRGV School of Optometry in developing policies and procedures for the school.
Description of Duties
+ Oversee and guide all clinical functions at UTRGV School of Optometry.
+ Design, develop, manage, and provide oversight of the clinical education and externship program.
+ Provide guidance regarding and monitor clinical compliance.
+ Develop clinical policies and procedures to include clinical education and clinical patient care. · Implement and execute the clinical program.
+ Assume the responsibilities of the Dean in the absence of the Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
+ Aid in recruitment, retention and development of clinical faculty members.
+ Deliver administrative guidance to faculty clinical committees.
+ Prepare data regarding the school’s clinical program to accreditation agencies and the Association for Schools and Colleges of Optometry.
+ Serve as liaison to clinically related committees locally, regionally, and nationally.
+ Work closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to help with the integration of the didactic and clinical programs.
+ Provide oversight of clinic budgetary requests and daily budget review and work closely with the School Administrator to ensure fiscal responsibility of the clinic(s).
+ The Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs will be assigned classroom teaching duties and/or clinical services duties on a regular basis as directed by the Dean of the School of Optometry. ·

Required Education
Doctor of Optometry degree (O.D.) from an ACOE -accredited institution or a clinical equivalent.

Licenses/Certifications
Optometric licensure in the State of Texas.
Required Experience
+ Three (3) years demonstrated health professional school and / or academic leadership work experience in higher education, with a strong preference for clinical leadership experience
+ Ten (10) years experience in private clinical practice and/or academic practice.
+ Solid understanding of the profession of Optometry and its role in the local, regional and national healthcare environment.
+ Comprehensive administrative skills including attention to detail, communication, supervision, and fiscal responsibility.
+ Experience in interprofessional healthcare education.
+ Expertise in higher education teaching and background.
+ Background in clinical administration and working interdisciplinary with other health professionals.
+ Familiarity with EMR systems, and billing and coding.
Preferred Experience
Knowledge of the clinical care, both optometric and medical, within the region
Equipment
Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
