Position Title Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program Coordinator
FLSA Non-Exempt
Primary Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of CSTEP and the McNair Scholars Program, the McNair Program Coordinator will collaborate with McNair scholars, faculty mentors, and alumni role models to provide undergraduate students the opportunity to explore all facets of the graduate school application process. Scholars participate in mentored research-intensive experiences, graduate school visits and workshops, and professional conferences. These services are designed to inspire students and support them in the postbaccalaureate pursuit of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in their chosen field of interest.
Duties/Responsibilities The primary responsibilities of the Program Coordinator are 1) to recruit program scholars and maintain the required minimum participation enrollment, 2) plan and execute an annual schedule of program seminars and events, and 3) ensure each participant completes an individualized educational/professional plan and a faculty-mentored summer research internship.
Specifically, the Coordinator will advertise and facilitate activities, instruct weekly student professional development workshops, and collaborate to plan events that relate to scholar recruitment timelines and implementation, academic success, scholar research skill development, and graduate school planning. This individual will be responsible for monitoring compliance with project requirements, including providing and managing access to and scholar completion of:
+ Research or other scholarly activities
+ Summer research internships
+ Seminars and other educational activities
+ Tutoring, as needed
+ Academic counseling and mentoring
+ Assistance in securing admission to graduate school
+ Assistance in securing financial aid for graduate school
The Coordinator also will:
+ Provide administrative support, organizing and maintaining student folders and documenting student contacts for program reporting.
+ Provide direct support services to enhance student success through regular individual check-ins with program scholars.
+ Plan trips and travel with scholars to graduate school visits and conference presentations.
+ Implement the summer research program and Community of Graduate Scholars ( COGS ) seminar, including assisting scholars to develop a McNair portfolio.
+ Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Director.
This position is subject to the availability of funding and is a U.S. Department of Education ( DOE ) grant-funded position on a 5-year funding cycle. The DOE reviews project performance to determine continuation status on a yearly basis. The person in this position will have regular performance reviews in the first year and annual reviews in subsequent years based on meeting established project objectives and recruitment targets.
This is a part-time position based on 20 hours/week with flexibility to work five 4-hour days or four 5-hour days.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in a STEM -related field, education, psychology, or other relevant discipline. Experience working with first generation college students and low-income individuals. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including social media platforms and intermediate Microsoft Office computer skills. A willingness to adjust work hours for occasional travel and student programming. A New York State driver’s license and ability to become a campus certified driver.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD degree in a STEM -related field, education, psychology, or other relevant field.
1-3 years of work experience in career services, student advising, or academic support services.
Salary Range $20.00 - $25.00 per hour. The salary level will be determined based on education, relevant experience, and other factors required for the position.
