Description
Robert Half Management Resources is recruiting for a strong Director of Accounting to lead the financial operations of our non-profit client's real estate development and property management portfolio. The ideal Director of Accounting will be available to go on-site for 3+ months in West Los Angeles and be responsible for overseeing accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance while ensuring the organization's financial health. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in real estate finance, accounting, and leadership.
The Director of Accounting will support a high-performing and expanding housing development business unit within our client's organization that delivers on their mission of investing in homes and communities so that low-income individuals and families may have a dignified living environment, achieve economic independence, and enjoy healthful and vital places to live and work.
Responsibilities:
• Manage all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger oversight.
• Prepare and review financial statements to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting.
• Lead the development and management of budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
• Oversee property-level accounting and ensure compliance with affordable housing program requirements, including Low-Income Housing Tax Credit regulations.
• Conduct financial planning, cash flow forecasting, and treasury functions to support organizational goals.
• Supervise the preparation of construction draws, cost certifications, and tax credit compliance tests.
• Lead annual audit processes and ensure the maintenance of accurate financial records for compliance reviews.
• Collaborate with leadership to develop financial strategies and support long-term business planning.
• Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals to ensure high performance.
• Prepare and submit investor and lender reporting packages, grants, and funding applications for housing projects.
Requirements
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on real estate or property management.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of real estate accounting principles, including affordable housing financing mechanisms such as tax credits and grants.
• Experience with Yardi property management software is required.
• Strong analytical and leadership skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights.
• Experience in project cost accounting, construction loan draws, budget management, and funding mechanisms.
