Mills Marine and Ship Repair, LLC (Mills Marine) is currently seeking an individual to support Touch Labor at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY).
Clearance Requirement:
Must be a US citizen with a DOD final Secret security clearance.
Supervise the following functions:
+ Shall be able to perform the following skill sets as called out in the Task order:
Open, inspect and repair components of submarine sea water, hydraulic, and diesel systems.
Remove, inspect, and repair various components (periscope, masts, and antennas) of submarine sail; Perform repair and restoration on a fat- or thin-line system;
Perform repair and restoration work on propulsion shaft, shaft coupling or vibration reducers; Remove, inspect and repair various fairwater, stem plane, and/or steering & diving system components; Remove, overhaul, install and align equipment associated with auxiliary systems such as condensers, compressors, pumps, forced draft blowers, main feed pumps and various types of valves.
Install and repair foundations for operating machinery and principal structures/components of ship's armament;
Install adjust, set, and repair or replace various control/regulating or safety devices such as meters, gauges, valves, governors and automatic alarms.
+ Be able to use various portable and fixed machine tools such as boring bars, milling machines, facing machines and drill presses.
+ Shall be qualified to use typical trade-related precision measurement instruments such as height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, Vernier scales and various types of micrometers
The Supervisor position requires a minimum of a high school diploma and/or successful completion of a related trade or industrial school.
Experience:
The Outside Marine Machinist Supervisor position requires 5 years of verifiable experience as a supervisor in heavy industrial applications i.e., commercial vessels or nuclear power plants, which shall include a minimum of two (2) years' work experience on U.S. Navy ships/vessels.
+ Have the ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications and blueprints.
+ Be knowledgeable in the operation of powered machinery/tooling/equipment relevant to trade skills.
+ Be knowledgeable in the use of precision measuring instruments normally associated with cognizant shipyard trades.
+ Be familiar with materials associated with the ship repair industry.
+ Have the ability to recognize working conditions or use of materials that require initiation of safety precautions and have the PPE for said conditions or materials.
+ Have working knowledge on how to read and understand the information provided in an MSDS.
+ Be qualified and experienced at working in confined spaces (e.g. tanks, voids or stowage).
+ Be qualified to wear safety harnesses and work from scaffolds or platforms where drop-off will be greater than five (5) feet.
Trade Training:
Completed a formal course of study in the assigned trade through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprentice program.
Must be trained in typical trade-related precision measurement instruments, such as micrometers, depth gauges and calipers while performing close tolerance work.

Shall be able to:
+ Remove, repair and install major propulsion, auxiliary, and weapon system equipment in accordance with applicable professional/trade standards and practices on U.S. Naval Surface Ships and Submarines.
+ Install Steering and Diving system components, repair all types of main and auxiliary machinery, including but not limited to capstan, shaft seals, snorkel induction, snorkel exhaust, mast, and various types of pumps, resilient mounts, valves and valve sub-components.
