The University at Albany seeks a visionary and highly organized leader to serve as the inaugural Director of the Semiconductor Workforce Innovative Future Talent (SWIFT) Gateway, an initiative housed within the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering (CNSE). The SWIFT Gateway is being launched in response to the transformative opportunities presented by the CHIPS and Science Act, the designation of the Albany NanoTech complex as a hub of the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC), and the rapid development of the Capital Region as a semiconductor innovation corridor.
The Director will lead cross-campus and external partnerships to position UAlbany as a national leader in semiconductor workforce development. This role includes identifying and responding to funding opportunities, coordinating education and training initiatives, engaging with industry and community partners, and managing outreach activities to inspire the next generation of talent.
Primary Responsibilities:
+ Strategic Leadership and Coordination
+ Lead and manage all operations of the SWIFT Gateway.
+ Identify and pursue federal, state, industry, and foundation funding opportunities related to semiconductor education, workforce development, and outreach (EWO).
+ Assemble and coordinate faculty and content experts to develop competitive proposals in response to RFPs.
+ Industry and Community Engagement
+ Cultivate and maintain partnerships with industry leaders such as GlobalFoundries, Micron, WolfSpeed, IBM, TEL, and Advanced Materials.
+ Serve as the primary liaison between UAlbany/CNSE and semiconductor employers to identify evolving workforce needs.
+ Engage with K-12 schools, community colleges, community groups, and professional societies to expand access to the semiconductor talent pipeline.
+ Program and Curriculum Development
+ Support the development of new courses, certificates, workshops, and programs in response to industry needs.
+ Maintain a current inventory of all UAlbany EWO offerings related to semiconductors and microelectronics.
+ Collaborate with academic departments to align curricula with workforce requirements.
+ Communications and Outreach
+ Work with the UAlbany Office of Communications and Marketing to elevate the visibility of CNSE's semiconductor-related programs.
+ Organize and coordinate outreach events, both on campus and in the community, to promote semiconductor career pathways to K-12 students, community college students, and adult learners.
+ Provide support for co-curricular initiatives, including the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) and the Semiconductor & Microelectronics Leadership Program.
+ Assessment and Impact Reporting
+ Develop and implement a comprehensive assessment plan to measure program success.
+ Track and report on key metrics, including: Number of RFPs submitted, and grants/contracts awarded, Number of new educational/training offerings, Number of outreach activities conducted and Level of industry and community engagement
Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
+ Reports to Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
+ May supervise Assistant as assigned (if no direct reports at time of filling position)
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Bachelors in STEM field, public policy, workforce development, or related area degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
+ 5+ years of relevant experience in program development, higher education, or industry collaboration
+ Demonstrated experience managing cross-sector partnerships and complex initiatives
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills
+ Ability to lead strategically and work collaboratively across diverse stakeholders
+ Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community
+ Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role
Preferred Qualifications:
+ 5+ years of experience in significant experience in the semiconductor or microelectronics sector.
+ Proven success securing and managing grant funding
+ Experience with K-12 or community-based STEM outreach
+ Familiarity with the CHIPS Act, NSTC initiatives, or regional economic development efforts
+ Master's degree in STEM field, public policy, workforce development, or related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

Additional Information:
Professional Rank and Salary Grade: SL-4, Staff Associate, $75,000-$85,000
