For more information, visit amwater.com and join American Water on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. _ *Primary Role*_ To perform a variety of tasks in supervising and participating in the locating, laying, repairing and extending underground water mains and distribution pipes. _*Key Accountabilities*_ * Investigates complaints and determines corrections action per company procedures. * Locations, marking company facilities associated with PA One Call System (includes overseeing and doing). * Set up or direct the set-up of barricades and places safety lights around work site to protect workers from street traffic. * Operations of valves and fire hydrants. * Operations of pneumatic or electric tools. * Completes all necessary forms, sketches and field notes and be knowledgeable of usage of maps and records. * Investigates complaints and determines corrections action per company procedures. * Any other duties assigned by supervisors. * Work on the Valve Maintenance Program: o New main line project - locate valves and make operational. o Assist with shutdowns using valve truck. o Enter data into GIS. _ *Knowledge/Skills*_ * Experience working in Distribution for 3 years. * Ability to tap into pressurized mains. * Skillful use of hand tools. * General knowledge of water hydraulics and distribution system repair and maintenance practices. * Familiarity with Penn DOT publications for setting up traffic control. * Familiarity with proper completion of company forms. * Knowledge of maintenance procedures for a variety of hand tools. * Customer service experience; experience working with computers. * Valid PA Drivers License Available for 24/7 callout and carryover time. * Working knowledge of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton distribution system components preferred. * Experience with valve and hydrant repair preferred. _ *Experience/Education*_ * Minimum: Competent person certified. * Vocational education, apprentice training, on the job training. * High School Diploma or equivalent. * Ability to understand instructions, safety rules, maps, diagrams, etc. * Perform basic math. * DEP Distribution License is a plus. _ *Work Environment*_ Both: Inside and Outside. A job is considered "both" if the activities occur inside or outside in approximately equal amounts. Wet and Humid: Wet: Contact with water or other liquids. Humid: Atmospheric conditions with moisture content sufficiently high to cause marked bodily discomfort. Noise and Vibration: Sufficient noise, either constant or intermittent, to cause marked distraction: Hazards: Situations in which the individual is exposed to the definite risk of bodily injury. Exposure to: Odors, toxic conditions, chemicals dusts or dusts or poor ventilation. Ability to work in confined spaces. _*Other*_ This role will require a DOT medical card and WorkSteps physical.
