    Summary: Craig Technologies has an opening for a Lift Devices Equipment Recertification Technician at Greenbelt, Maryland – Goddard Space Flight Center. This is a Union position and is governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement. The employee assigned to this position shall perform inspections, certifications, and required maintenance of Code 549 rigging hardware, overhead cranes, and other LDE such as forklifts and manlifts. In some cases, the assigned employee may be asked to perform related duties for other codes including, but not limited to, Code 540 or support corrective and preventative maintenance for various types of LDE equipment. This position reports directly to the ETIS III LDE Supervisor.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Performs periodic audits of LDE rigging hardware and updates the LQMS database as required.

     

    Conducts certification activities of rigging hardware, including but not limited to, visual inspections, pull/load testing, and/or non-destructive examination per industry and NASA lifting standards.

     

    Supports overhead crane and other Code 549-owned lift inspections and preventative maintenance under the purview of a qualified inspector on an as-needed basis.

     

    Identifies potential issues and develops detailed anomaly reports to ETIS III management.

     

    Accurately documents inspection findings and prepares reports in LQMS in a timely manner outlining the results of inspections, including necessary repairs or maintenance.

     

    Collaborates with maintenance and other LDE recertification personnel to address identified anomalies and ensures equipment is safe for operation.

     

    Must be able to perform corrective and preventative maintenance of overhead cranes, MEWP, and other types of LDE equipment as necessary.

     

    Maintains a working knowledge of industry and NASA regulations and standards related to crane and lifting operations.

     

    Ability to work safely, follow workplace directives and conduct quality and safety inspections. Must understand and follow posted work procedures.

     

    Must be capable of working independently and in a high-pressure environment.

     

    Ensure all work adheres to industry, NASA, and GSFC requirements.

    SUPERVISOR GUIDANCE

    The LDE Recertification Technician reports directly to the ETIS Facility LDE Supervisor for administrative and technical direction. This position may also receive administrative direction from the ETIS Institutional Systems Manager regarding day-to-day job functions and customer direction.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    The candidate must have an active crane operator license and a minimum of 10 years of operating experience

     

    The candidate must have an active MEWP license and a minimum of 10 years of operating experience

     

    An industry-recognized crane inspector certification (i.e. crane institute or NCCCO) is required or must be obtained within three (3) months of hire date.

     

    The candidate must have the ability to pass a physical examination

     

    The candidate must possess, at a minimum, a high school education or equivalent

     

    Working knowledge of ASME B30.2, ASME B30.16, ASME B30.17, ASME B30.21, ASME B30.26 ASME B30.9 and CMAA Specifications 70, 74, and 78.

     

    The candidate shall be familiar with common types of software applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft office and have familiarity with different types of common office devices.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Direct experience in NASA and/or aerospace integration and testing environments.

    General familiarity with the LQMS software package

    A minimum of 2,000 hours performing inspection activities of overhead cranes and other LDE is preferred.

     

    The ability to train crane operators through classroom or hands-on training is preferred.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills.

     

    Lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.

     

    Will be required to climb ladders for visual verification of system configuration.

     

    Will be required to use fall protection equipment and work from elevated heights.

     

    Will be required to use typical PPE such as hard hat, safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses/goggles/face shield, gloves, and others per NASA safety requirements.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Work is accomplished in an integration and testing environment and may be performed in the presence of civil servants or flight project personnel.

     

    Some travel to other sites or remote locations may be required.

     

    Work with other personnel in a group that is team-oriented as well as working alone under pressure.

     

    Detail to providing information correctly and in a timely fashion

     

    Accept and work within established policies and procedures pertaining to company rules and regulations.

    EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASK

    Understand use of computer equipment (laptop, printers, etc). The candidate must complete hands-on training with the calibrated ‘pull-test’ equipment prior to completing any load testing on rigging equipment and other LDE components.

    CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE

    Regular daily attendance and reporting on time is required to maintain shift effectiveness. Work is typically scheduled during the day shift on weekdays. Work on holidays and weekends (scheduled and unscheduled), and shift work may be required. May be required to have the ability to be contacted outside of regular work hours. Willing to start earlier than standard start times to avoid impacting I&T activities during transportation, set-up/break-down, and testing.
