Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of U.S. Border Patrol, Blaine Sector in Blaine, WA. **This announcement has been amended on 07/15/2025 to extend the closing date to 08/01/2025** Responsibilities This position allows you to use your knowledge and expertise as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst for GIS operations. You will act as a Senior GIS Analyst and serve as the primary technical advisor to USBP management GIS coordinator in all matters pertaining to GIS. This position starts at a salary of $118,446.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $153,982.00 (GS-13, Step 10). As a Cartographer, you will serve as an expert responsible for providing support to U.S. Border Patrol management in the development, management, coordination, and implementation of Geographic Information System (GIS). Typical work assignments include: Working within an integrated strategic technical workforce team environment to meet customer needs and requirements for products and/or services. Planning, organizing, and leading with forward thinking approaches in the preparation of requirements and specifications for new systems and evaluating overall plans and proposals for systems developed by others. Querying and analyzing multiple GIS themes and relational datasets, developing databases, data analyses, and useful documents, maps, and reports. Reviewing mapping and analytical products to ensure that adherence to all relevant standards and regulations. Qualifications This position has an Individual Occupational Requirement. Basic Requirement: You must provide supporting documentation in your application to show you meet the basic requirement below. Degree: Cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites). - OR- Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You qualify for this position if you meet the Basic Requirement listed above AND possess the experience or substitution of education, if applicable, as described below. Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Cartographic mapping, surveying, geodesic, and related sciences, and relevant mathematics and statistics to plan, design, construct, evaluate, and modify mapping and charting systems. Performing geospatial data management functions for national-level datasets to include data identification, compilation, modification, analysis, maintenance, distribution, archiving and metadata attribution. Identifying, reviewing and evaluating large volumes of sensitive and complex tactical geospatial and intelligence data pertaining to Agency initiatives. Maintaining awareness of latest technologies for applicable geospatial projects to be able to present and/or demonstrate mapping and geospatial expertise to field components.
