    The College of Arts & Sciences Application and Development team has an outstanding opportunity for a Departmental Computing Manager to join their team.

     

    The College of Arts & Sciences at University of Washington is looking to hire a leadership role for the newly formed Application and Development team. The role will provide leadership and strategic vision for the CAS (College of Arts and Sciences) Apps and Development Team. This is a strategic leadership position where technical acumen is essential. The position will provide strategic direction and leadership to the Apps and Development team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence. You will oversee the budget, planning, execution, and delivery of development projects, ensuring they meet quality standards, timelines, and budget constraints. You will need to stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, and integrate them into the development process to enhance product offerings. The position will be responsible for developing policies and procedures that will impact the team and the broader college’s IT landscape with business improvements in the area of Applications and Development.

     

    As a leader you will mentor and develop team members, promoting professional growth and ensuring the team has the skills and resources needed to succeed. This position will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Project Management, Desktop Support, Infrastructure, and web to align development efforts with research, teaching and administrative objectives. This team will implement best practices for software development, testing, and deployment to ensure the highest level of quality and reliability. You must drive continuous improvement and innovation within the development team, encouraging creative solutions and new approaches to problem-solving.

     

    The manager is a member of the CAS IT Leadership Team and will lead/manage projects, perform analysis, write policies and procedure, service and process changes, implement Service Management practices, and continual improvements; they are also responsible for establishing tactical plans and working collaboratively across diverse groups to ensure projects and services are aligned with University and College goals and requirements. This role will have budgetary approval authority.

     

    **About us:** CAS IT’s core mission is to provide critical IT support to the faculty and staff in the college. We are an agile and collaborative team working to continually make technology less cumbersome for our customers while ensuring our solutions are secure, scalable, and in service of the College and UW’s mission of teaching and research.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** **Project Management

    • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of development projects, ensuring they meet quality standards, timelines, and budget constraints.

    • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, and integrate them into the development process to enhance product offerings.

    • Track metrics on usage and growth of service offerings.

    • Monitor information security best practices and work with the team to identify areas that need to be improved upon (as applicable).

    • Perform on a need basis, systems analysis, information security management, and network infrastructure changes in partnership with the infrastructure team.

    Consulting and Support of Administration, Faculty and Staff

    • Conduct outreach to departments and centers to identify areas of common good and opportunities to leverage technology to improve business processes.

    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, IT support, infrastructure, and to align development efforts with core objectives.

    • Drive continuous improvement and innovation within the development team, encouraging creative solutions and new approaches to problem-solving.

    Compliance/Security Management

    • Work to ensure data practices as they apply to applications and development of tools are compliant with UW Data Protection and Security policies

    • Communicate regularly with Director of Information Technology to ensure compliance.

    Administrative and Team Management

    • Hire, train, direct, manage, and mentor staff

    • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Apps and Development team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

    • Define areas of service and offerings to provide the most impact for academic and administrative areas of the college.

    • Create training materials and knowledge-based articles to ensure the team has best-practices documented.

    • Perform performance reviews and team building efforts consistently; providing and receiving feedback to improve the quality of the service as well as promote a collaborative work environment.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    + Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Equivalent experience can substitute for degree requirement.

    + 4 years of experience in software development, with at least 4 years in a leadership role. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS** • Technical Skills: Proficiency in multiple programming languages and development frameworks; strong understanding of mobile and web application development.• Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and inspire a team, manage complex projects, and drive strategic initiatives.• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of developing innovative solutions.• Budget Planning: Experience with budgetary oversight, planning, and vendor negotiations. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS** • Experience working in Higher Education• Experience with ticketing systems, particularly ServiceNow. **Application Process:** The application process may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
