Job Summary
The Web Support & Usability team, a division of University IT, is seeking a University of Utah student to support digital accessibility and related web support services for college, departmental, and program websites using the Modern Campus content management system. This position will focus on improving website accessibility by resolving issues identified through automated scans and conducting manual testing to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards. Training will be provided, but the ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and committed to making the web more inclusive and user-friendly.
Responsibilities
Assist with identifying, documenting, and resolving accessibility issues flagged by automated testing tools
Conduct manual accessibility checks using tools such as screen readers, keyboard navigation, and browser extensions
Help track and maintain accessibility compliance data and reporting
Serve as a resource on accessibility best practices, staying current on industry standards and new regulations
Assist the support team in managing the support queue, analyzing requests, complaints, concerns, and suggestions, ensuring prompt and appropriate follow-through
Provide top-tier customer service and website support, ensuring timely completion of requests and friendly, comprehensive communication
Create and enhance webpages within the Modern Campus CMS to improve usability, accessibility, and overall web presence
Support tool administration and content migration tasks
Provide accurate time estimates and project plans; accurately track and report time by project
Minimum Qualifications
Current Univeristy of Utah student
Preferences
Interest in a long-term internship (more than one year)
Experience creating and editing content within a CMS environment
Familiarity with web accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1) and related tools
Exposure to other web industry best practices including: Writing for the web, Usability testing and research methodologies, Search engine optimization, Website migration processes
Experience or coursework in HTML , CSS , or JavaScript
Interest in digital inclusion and a desire to help improve the web experience for all users, including those with disabilities
