    Summary:

    Meta is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join its Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team in NYC. We are committed to advancing the field of artificial intelligence by making fundamental advances in scientific methods and technologies to help interact with and understand our world. In NYC, we are specifically working on natural language processing, computer vision, generative modeling and evaluations, and mechanistic interpretability. For this position, we are looking for an individual passionate about furthering our understanding of large, generative models and making them more transparent, efficient, and interpretable. Postdoctoral research positions are 1-year fixed-term with a possible extension of up to 1 year based on researcher performance and business need. In the spirit of FAIR’s general mission, we expect the work performed by the postdoctoral researcher to be open science and open source.

    Required Skills:

    Postdoctoral Researcher, FAIR (PhD) Responsibilities:

    1. Perform research to understand the mechanisms learned by generative models

    2. Perform research to advance the science and technology of intelligent systems

    3. Directly contribute to experiments, including designing experimental details, creating reusable code, running evaluations, organizing and analyzing results

    4. Influence progress of relevant research communities by producing publications

    5. Contribute to publications and open-sourcing efforts

    6. Help identify long-term ambitious research goals as well as intermediate milestones

    Minimum Qualifications:

    7. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta

    8. Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in Computer Science or a similar field. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta

    9. Research background in machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, computational statistics, or other related areas

    10. Prior experience performing interpretability research on AI models

    11. Track record of publications reflecting expertise in theoretical and/or empirical research

    12. Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

    13. First-authored publications at peer-reviewed conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, NAACL, EMNLP, COLM, CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, or similar)

    14. Experience communicating research for public audiences of peers. Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment

    15. Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, trade-offs, and different perspectives to determine a path forward

    16. Research and engineering experience demonstrated via internships, work experience, grants, fellowships, patents, and/or coding competitions

    Public Compensation:

    $117,000/year to $173,000/year + benefits
