Description of Duties:
SUNY ESF invites applicants for Academic Advisor within the Division of Environmental Science. This position will play a pivotal role in supporting the academic and professional growth of our students, contributing to the college's mission and sustainability goals. The Advisor role will balance both teaching (ENS132 & ENS 232 seminars) and administrative responsibilities, ensuring a holistic educational experience that prepares students for future challenges in environmental science and sustainability. This individual serves as the primary advisor for all lower division and several upper division Environmental Science BS students, tracking their progress. The Advisor role also delivers an orientation seminar in the fall (ERE 132) and an upper level seminar on professional development (ENS 232) that launches students on their pathway for senior synthesis. The Advisor role will also contribute to program assessment and promotion of the program.
Primary Responsibilities
+ Serve as advisor for all lower division students, transfer students, and a subset of upper division students (assisting faculty advisors as needed).
+ Serve as the Instructor of record for ENS132 and ENS232.
+ Track progress of all students towards degree completion.
+ Support development of and provide monitoring for student capstone experiences.
+ Support data collection required for Middle States accreditation.
+ Assist in promoting the program and communicating program requirements to prospective students.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
+ BS degree in environmental science or a closely related field.
+ Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
+ Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty and staff, and external partners.
+ Proficiency with MS Office Suite and other applicable computer applications
+ Ability to relate to, and respectfully interact with, people from a wide range of abilities, educational backgrounds, age groups, and socio-economic levels.
+ Teaching and advising experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master's degree in environmental science or a closely related field.
