Description
The Lee County Library System, a dynamic and forward-thinking organization, is seeking an enthusiastic, community-minded individual to join our team as a Youth Services/Young Adult Library Associate at the Dunbar-Jupiter Hammon Library.
In this vital role, you will plan and lead creative, engaging programs both inside the library and at outreach locations for young adults, children, and their families. The ideal candidate is imaginative, team-oriented, and committed to excellent customer service, with a passion for connecting with a diverse community and supporting lifelong learning.
About the Dunbar-Jupiter Hammon Library
Opened in April 1974, the library is named in honor of Jupiter Hammon, the first published African American author, and Paul Laurence Dunbar, the first widely acclaimed African American poet in the United States. Deeply rooted in its namesake community, the Dunbar-Jupiter Hammon Library partners closely with local organizations to meet the unique needs of its patrons. At Dunbar, teamwork is at the heart of everything we do as we work together to make a meaningful impact.
Duties and Responsibilities
+ Plan, coordinate, and lead engaging programs for children both in the library and at outreach locations.
+ Supervise staff and/or volunteers
+ Assist with special events and library-wide initiatives.
+ Create vibrant displays to promote books and library events.
+ Support collection development through material selection and maintenance.
+ Provide reference and readers’ advisory assistance to library users of all ages using both print and digital resources.
+ Assist patrons with electronic devices, internet access, and online tools.
+ Deliver friendly, inclusive, and responsive customer service to a diverse community.
+ Manage routine supply requests and prepare purchase orders.
+ Generate reports and contribute to ongoing library improvement efforts.
+ Operate a variety of library equipment, including computers, self-check machines, copiers, and cash registers.
+ Knowledge of literature for children and teens is preferred.
Education, Experience, Licensing
+ A combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s Degree or completion of two years of college, along with at least two years of customer service experience.
+ Experience planning and leading programs for children is highly preferred.
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
+ A positive, adaptable attitude and a strong commitment to serving the public.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
+ One year of related library experience.
+ Experience with planning and presenting programs to children and teens.
+ Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills are a plus.
+ A valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Supplemental Information
Work Schedule: This position requires 80 hours bi-weekly, with varying hours and days, including evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays.

Retirees of the Investment Plan are eligible for renewed membership in the Investment Plan only. FRS reemployment rules apply for both.
