    About this Job

     

    The mission of the Secretary of State's office is to serve the public by meeting its legal responsibilities of collecting, securing and communicating information that enhances commerce, ensures the integrity of Louisiana's elections and preserves, presents and makes accessible government information essential to Louisiana's operations and its recorded history.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Three years of experience in historical research, archival operations, records management, records preservation, or college-level teaching in a humanities field; OR

    Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR

    A bachelor's degree.

    EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

    Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    + Researches state and federal laws regarding records management.

    + Meets with state and parish government representatives to assist them in developing and managing their records in an efficient and economical manner.

    + Collaborates with state and parish government agencies in the development of their records retention schedules.

    + Reviews state and parish government agencies' disposal requests to determine if their records have met retention and are eligible for destruction.

    + Presents training to state and parish government agencies on records management practices.

    Preferred Skills:

    + Efficient, organized, and a self-starter.

    + Skilled at legal research.

    + Possesses a working knowledge of Louisiana's governmental organizational structures, operations, and functions.

    + Demonstrates a commitment to learning.

    Position-Specific Details:

    Appointment Type: Classified WAE - THIS IS A PART TIME WAE POSITION. IF HIRED, THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF HOURS WILL BE 1,245 PER 12 MONTH PERIOD.
