Join Our Team at UPMC Somerset – Now Hiring a Flex Full-time HIM Technician!

Are you organized, detail-oriented, and looking for a flexible job in a healthcare setting? UPMC Somerset is seeking a Health Information Technician to support our team with 28–40 hours per week, Monday through Friday during daylight hours.

What You’ll Do:

+ Help gather and organize patient records for use in care, billing, legal matters, and research.

+ Maintain both paper and digital files by sorting, repairing, and updating them as needed.

+ Prepare documents for scanning or filing and check that all images are clear and complete.

+ Use hospital systems to find and correct patient information like names and visit dates.

+ Answer phone calls politely and assist with questions or requests.

+ Work closely with doctors, nurses, and staff to ensure smooth communication and record handling.

+ Track where records go and make sure they’re returned to the right place.

+ Keep your work area neat and make sure files are in the right order.

+ Support researchers by following rules for sharing patient information safely.

+ Be ready to adjust your hours based on department needs while enjoying a consistent weekday schedule.

+ High School diploma or equivalent is required.

+ Computer/keyboarding skills and working knowledge of office equipment operations required.

+ 1 year previous medical record department related experience preferred.

+ Prior medical terminology education and previous exposure to terminal digit filing preferred.

+ General knowledge of Pennsylvania and federal HIPAA regulations regarding proper release of information procedures preferred.

+ Prior exposure to document imaging systems and other healthcare computer applications preferred.
