Job Summary and Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs supervision of subordinate personnel, provides a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, medical staff, employees, and their property, as well as ensures the security of the buildings and property of the Hospital.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Security and within established departmental policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions:
1. Plans, schedules, and directs all assignments of security officers on his/her shift and provides instruction for any special duties required in addition to regular duties. Maintains administrative and operational control of the assigned shift. In the absence of the Director of Security, the Shift Leader is responsible as the on-duty supervisor for the security dept.
1. The Shift Leader will review the daily activity reports for content and accuracy of the security officers under his/her supervision, maintain a weekly log of shift activities and submit to the Director of Security a weekly written report on all departmental shift activity. Additionally, the Shift Leader will submit a daily report of unusual incidents that occur during his/her assigned shift. The Shift Leader will review daily / weekly activity reports for the purpose of maintaining monthly statistics, and submit a monthly statistical report as required by the Director of Security. Instruct shift personnel in office procedures as outlined by the Director of security. Ensure compliance for efficient operation of the shift.
1. Review payroll / timesheets for officers under his/her supervision.
1. Keep records for use in completing subordinate performance evaluations, and training requirements.
1. Enforce adherence to all policies and procedures, record and report any disciplinary issues.
1. Recommends staffing, training and equipment needs
1. Refers unusual or complex situations to the Director of Security.
1. Conducts regularly-scheduled patrols of Hospital buildings and grounds, checking all doors, windows, alarms and firefighting equipment (extinguishers, etc.). Patrols employee parking lot and garage areas to ensure safety of employees.
1. Documents all activity including rounds in the Security Log. Prepares online incident occurrence reports as needed.
1. Responds to emergency situations including all codes; Code Amber, Black, Blue, Gray, Green, Red, Orange, Purple, Silver, Yellow, White and Condition H, in addition to any other Hospital Code or stat situation.
1. Assists authorized employees and physicians requiring access to certain hospital areas.
1. Assists with the lifting and transportation of deceased persons and their property to the hospital morgue. Provides release of deceased persons and their property after obtaining proper authorization from hospital supervisor. Maintains precise “chain of custody” records in this matter.
1. Coordinates with the Mom’s Place for all infant and fetal demise issues.
1. Maintains radio communication via two way radio with hospital switchboard and other security officers and responds to requests made by the switchboard on behalf of patients, employees, physicians and visitors.
1. Provides courtesy escorts 24-7 to employees, patients, visitors when requested.
1. Responds in an efficient and professional manners when responding to disasters, fire drills, fires and other emergency situations.
1. Ensures confidentiality of senior management, patient information and Hospital matters. Maintains good communications, and establishes and maintains positive working relationships with employees, senior management, media and the public.
1. Exercises care in the operation and use of equipment and reference materials. Performs routine cleaning and preventative maintenance to ensure continuing functioning of equipment. Maintains work areas in a clean, safe and organized manner.
1. Responsible for the efficient handling of patient valuables and lost and found items. Follows established procedure on maintenance and tracking of patient valuables and lost and found property.
1. Responsible for the proper handling and securing of items that may or may not be of evidentiary value in the furtherance of any criminal or internal investigation, ensuring that the proper chain of custody is followed and documented.
1. Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
What qualifications you will need:
Education:
+ High School graduate or equivalent. Post-secondary education preferred.
Experience:
+ Four years of prior security, law enforcement, or military experience required.
+ Two years’ experience or occupational equivalent in supervision of personnel preferred.
+ Proficiency in computers and Microsoft products is required.
Licensure/Certification:
+ Current valid driver’s license required. Must be able to provide a certified copy of motor vehicle history from the state DMV in which the applicant resides. Applicant must not have any misdemeanor or felony level motor vehicle convictions or pending license suspension or revocation.
+ Applicant must successfully pass a criminal background check without any convictions for misdemeanor or felony level criminal offenses.
