    Summary Statement

    We are seeking a responsible and enthusiastic individual to supervise youth grades 6-12 in afterschool recreation programs at one of the city’s school-based community centers. In this role, you will assist staff and the program supervisor in organizing and running teen recreation activities, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for all participants. The position requires the ability to work independently with limited supervision and is open to all interested applicants aged 19 and older.     Position Details:

    + Compensation: $15.00 per hour

    + Location: Fort Boise Community Center (700 Robbins Rd, Boise, ID 83702), South Junior High, or Hillside Junior High. Final placement will be determined at the time of hire.

    + Duration: August 2025 – May 2026 (full academic year commitment preferred)

     

    This position is designated as At-Will.

    Essential Functions

    + Ensures the safety and well-being of all community center afterschool participants and staff.

    + Encourages and engages youths in a variety of indoor and outdoor group recreational activities such as basketball, tag and tetherball.

    + Prepares materials and supplies for youth arts and crafts projects and assists participants when necessary.

    + Makes sure equipment and supplies are in good working order and notifies supervisor when items need repair or replacement.

    + Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.

    Requirements

    Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

    + Working knowledge of computer software such as Word and Excel as well as internet skills.

    + Ability to: interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.

    Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

    + One year of experience supervising youths and teens.

    + Current certification in First Aid/CPR.

    Licensing And Other Requirements

    + Valid state-issued driver's license

    Applicants must be able to pass:

    + City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation

    + Driving Record Check

    + Drug Free Workplace: In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test.

    + This position is required to work directly with and oversee minors in the absence of their parent or guardian, or work directly with and oversee vulnerable adults in the absence of their caretaker or guardian.

    Physical Efforts

    While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds and frequently lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds and frequently pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. The noise level is always moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, runn, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and grasp. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

     

    Working Environment

     

    The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions.

     

    This position works: afternoons/evenings and some weekends

     

    19-Hour Temporary

     

    All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.

     

    4-Month Temporary

     

    All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.

     

    8-Month Seasonal

     

    In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.

     

    9-Month Temporary

     

    In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
