    Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

    Master’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Four (4) years of full-time administrative experience at a college or university in academic advising, counseling, student leadership, or student services that provide advising in some capacity. Experience coordinating projects, programs, and/or events. Experience developing training content and/or curriculum for a student development related program or course.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Masters Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in higher education, student affairs, social work, counseling, or related discipline. Professional experience in academic advising at a college or university. Experience teaching a college-level seminar for new students or student development related courses. Experience developing, planning, and/or assessing programs. Experience working with new undergraduate students. Working knowledge of PeopleSoft, Navigate, and/or Brightspace.

    Brief Description of Duties:

    Reporting to the Director of the Undergraduate Colleges, the Program Manager for Leadership & Learning coordinates departmental efforts around student leadership and the first-year seminar curriculum to support academic success. Additionally, the incumbent will serve as an Academic Advisor to first and second year students. This position provides a significant link to students’ transition from high school through their second year of college and serves to strengthen student engagement and retention. The incumbent is an active leader, remaining up-to-date with student-centered practices and retention strategies. Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Experience successfully working independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.

    Duties:

    Project Coordinator:

    + Serve as the coordinator of departmental efforts around student leadership and the first-year seminars, overseeing the SBU 101 and the Undergraduate College Fellows (Student Peer Mentors) program and courses. This includes providing oversight to:

    + Course materials, lesson plans and activities, instructor recruitment and training(s), and learning outcomes and measures for the courses managed by the department;

    + Course communications, attendance, grading, and behavioral concerns.

    + Recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision for Undergraduate College Fellows (Student Peer Mentors).

    + Contribute to marketing efforts, including but not limited to social media, print, website, calendar, and additional digital media; and

    + Overall programmatic needs.

    Academic Advising and Programmatic Administration:

    + Provide high quality, pro-active academic advising in individual and group settings on an ongoing basis throughout the first and second year, including regular communication about courses, majors, degree requirements, and policies and procedures.

    + Monitor course enrollment and academic progress.

    + Provide active support, follow-up and strategies for success to students on academic action or those considered at risk.

    + Serve as a general drop-in academic advisor, as needed.

    + Develop, coordinate, and manage activities and initiatives that build community and support academic success.

    New Student Seminar Instruction:

    + Participate in relevant training and provide instruction for required sections of a new student seminar class.

    + Teach the two-semester leadership development course sequence for the Undergraduate College Fellows (Student Peer Mentors) program.

    + Supervise, train, and evaluate an assigned teaching assistant.

    Orientation and Registration:

    + Assist in the coordination and implementation of orientation sessions for incoming students in a particular cohort or group.

    + Provide 1:1 and group advising for new students regarding academic planning, policies, course requirements, and the process of registration.

    + Participate in student orientation and opening weekend programs in January and the summer, including assisting in the development, planning, and implementation of new student related events and activities.

    + Participation in various programs such as training/staff development, campus events, and University-Wide committees.

    **Other duties or projects** as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

    Special Notes:

    This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

     

    In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
