    Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technologist

    Job Description

    The Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for accurately performing specimen analysis, maintaining laboratory instruments, and ensuring quality control procedures, including moderate and high complexity laboratory tests.

    Responsibilities

    + Initiate and follow quality assurance and safety policies and procedures.

    + Perform specimen collection and assist with patient flow.

    + Act as the primary operator for at least one laboratory instrument.

    + Serve as a resource for laboratory science information.

    + Oversee daily laboratory activities in the absence of a supervisor.

    + Support and adhere to compliance programs, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

    + Assist with performing phlebotomy and collecting appropriate specimens from patients.

    + Assure pre-authorization and complete appropriate consent forms prior to collection of limited coverage tests.

    + Assist with special procedures as needed, such as bone marrow in the room.

    + Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.

    + Perform specimen analysis of all Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology specimens.

    + Maintain and operate all laboratory equipment, performing daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance.

    + Adhere to quality control policies and document all QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and instrument maintenance.

    + Record proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents.

    + Participate in proficiency testing by performing sample analysis and reporting results at least once a year.

    + Prepare peripheral blood smears and competently perform complete WBC differentials on normal and abnormal smears.

    + Perform microscopic examination of urinary sediment.

    + Record results on appropriate worksheets and computer systems and perform file maintenance.

    + Process specimens for send-out testing.

    + Identify and correct problems affecting test performance or notify a supervisor.

    + Maintain proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program.

    + Verify all critical results and document with accurate follow-up.

    + Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure their viability before patient testing.

    + Prepare reagents, stains, and other chemical solutions as needed.

    + Restock the laboratory area as necessary.

    + Send specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in-house.

    + Process incoming orders for lab testing, including reference laboratory specimens.

    + Chart patient results in a timely manner.

    + Properly identify and band patients for blood product transfusion.

    + Process properly labeled specimens according to local blood bank policy.

    + Participate in the development of new instruments and procedures as needed.

    + Comply with quality assurance standards, OSHA compliance laws, and Universal Precaution procedures.

    + Adhere to applicable regulatory agency standards and properly dispose of hazardous materials.

    + Maintain a clean working environment.

    + Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients and medical staff.

    + Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs.

    Essential Skills

    + Experience or school training as a Medical Laboratory Technician.

    + Strong background in Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology testing.

    + Comfortable with moderate/high complexity testing.

    + Proficient in phlebotomy, equipment maintenance, and quality control.

    + Familiar with CLIA standards and OSHA compliance.

    + Team player with solid documentation and troubleshooting skills.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + ASCP certification preferred but not required.

    + MT/MLT certification.

    Work Environment

    Work in a high-impact oncology setting with opportunities for growth from entry-level to senior roles. Supportive team with strong training and development. No weekend shifts, ensuring great work/life balance. The position is onsite from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, processing 135+ specimens a day.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $40.00/hr.
