    The Coastal Resources Scientist Supervisor leads a team within the CPRA’s Planning and Research Division, overseeing scientific and technical work supporting Louisiana’s Coastal Master Plan. This role involves understanding the complex technical issues of coastal restoration and hurricane flood protection initiatives while balancing environmental, economic, and social considerations. As part of the Master Plan Team, the position plays a key role in helping to develop the state’s Coastal Master Plan, the document that shapes the state’s strategies and investments in protecting and restoring vital coastal ecosystems and addressing risks to communities from storm surge-based flooding.

    Minimum Qualifications

    A bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field plus three years of experience in coastal resource management, wetland resource management, environmental science, natural resource management, or biology; OR

    A master's degree in biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field plus two years of experience in coastal resource management, wetland resource management, environmental science, natural resource management, or biology; OR

    A Ph.D. in biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field plus one year of experience in coastal resource management, wetland resource management, environmental science, natural resource management, or biology.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    + Supervises scientific, environmental, and technical work related to and in support of the development and implementation of Louisiana’s Coastal Master Plan, including coordination of public meetings, stakeholder engagement, and integration of nonstructural and adaptive management programs.

    + Leads a team in a fast-paced, public-facing environment while maintaining a high level of detail-orientation, adaptively managing workloads, developing staff skillsets, and fostering a collaborative work culture grounded in accountability, problem-solving, and strategic thinking.

    + Prepares and supervises the development of technical materials—including scientific reports, presentations, and briefing documents—often for use by CPRA leadership in high-profile settings.

    + Provides expert review and guidance on coastal restoration and hurricane protection initiatives, responds to public information requests, and represents the agency at meetings, conferences, and technical committees.

    + Participates in ecosystem data collection and analysis, prepares scopes of work and project timelines, and manages contracts to ensure technical quality, regulatory compliance, and the best interests of the state are upheld.

    + Assists in setting strategic goals and priorities for the Plan Development Section and supports performance tracking by providing data for required performance indicators.

    Position-Specific Details:

    Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional

     

    Compensation: The bi-weekly minimum hire rate established for this position in accordance with CPRA’s Special Entrance Rate Policy is $2,510.40. The maximum salary for the Coastal Resources Scientist Supervisor is $103,064 annually.
