    _Candidates must be able to commute and work onsite in Corning, NY_

    **Pay Rate:** Based on experience

    **Work Hours:** M–F 8am–5pm, may require working weekends/holidays or longer days to support schedule

    **Education:** Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

    Description

    The Mechanical Engineer IV will serve as a senior mechanical design engineer, responsible for delivering detailed mechanical designs for precision motion systems and custom precision tooling/fixtures. This role involves managing the entire lifecycle of equipment design, build, and debug, including vendor interaction. The engineer will provide hands-on support during installation, start-up, and troubleshooting of fiber/connector manufacturing process equipment. This position involves applying mechanical principles such as mechanics, hydraulics, thermodynamics, metallurgy, and machine design to support the development and operation of various types of machinery.

    Requirements

    • 10+ years of mechanical equipment design experience

    • Proficient with SolidWorks

    • Strong understanding of precision engineering principles

    • Experience designing and building precision motion systems

    • Competent with structural FEA analysis

    • Experience with design, install, start-up, and debug of robust mechanical equipment in a manufacturing environment

    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

    • Good written and oral communication skills

    • Ability to collaborate and work with diverse teams (skills, gender, culture, race, etc.)

    Required Qualifications

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline

    Qualifications

    • Proven ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams

    • Strong vendor management experience

    • Demonstrated ability to oversee equipment build and installation from start to finish

    • Ability to develop creative, practical solutions in a fast-paced R&D and production setting

    Key Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with internal project teams to understand design requirements

    • Independently determine and develop approaches to technical solutions

    • Support installation and debug efforts at R&D and production facilities

    • Provide hands-on insight into equipment installation and troubleshooting

    • Validate equipment build and layout against engineering drawings

    • Work with internal engineers and external vendors to resolve installation or build issues

    Travel Requirements

    • Approx. 25% travel

    • Travel to suppliers or vendors for equipment check-out prior to shipment may be required
