JOB SUMMARY
This position exists to do the following:
1. Assist the Chief Forester and Team Leader - Forestry & Surveillance in managing and developing the Company's timberland resources in an assigned Forest Region (typically 25K-40K acres) in a manner that supports corporate financial & sustainability goals
2. Ensure protection of land and land rights through boundary line maintenance and surveillance of Alabama Power Company, Alabama Property Company, and SEGCo land holdings, including regulated property (i.e., plant-in-service, FERC project, and held for future use), and
3. Provide support for the acquisition of fee owned land and transmission right of way (ROW), as well as for leasing, sales and development.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Assisting Chief Forester and Team Leader, Forestry & Surveillance in formulating policy, procedures, and goals.
+ Planning and conducting timber sales to achieve revenue goals; ensuring appropriate booking of revenue.
+ Compiling, maintaining, and updating timber inventory; preparing and implementing written timber management plans for all tracts within the assigned Region. This involves detailed analysis using sophisticated forest management software along with the ability to revise plans as land ownership amounts change and as land uses on existing ownership change.
+ Establishing timber values for condemnation, damages, sales, etc. and testifying in court to such value as an expert witness.
+ Ensuring silvicultural activities are correctly prescribed and properly implemented in order to produce positive cost/benefit ratios and a sustainable yield of healthy forest products.
+ Supporting Acquisition, Leasing, Sales and Development activities, includingtimber appraisals, courthouse records research, and land use vetting.
+ Providing wildlife management expertise and advice to hunting clubs on APC lands as well as assisting APC facility personnel in implementing wildlife program.
+ Performing surveillance inspections and documenting encroach.ments, boundary issues, unauthorized use of property, and other illegal activities at least once every three years
**JOB REQUIREMENTS** ( _Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)_
+ BS degree in Forestry from an abet accredited institution is required; registered Forester license in the State of Alabama is preferred.
+ A minimum of 5 years of experience in forest management or timber procurement is required, 10 years or more is preferred.
+ In-depth understanding of integrated forestry and wildlife management along with its relationship to APC timberland resource and APC Power Delivery objectives.
+ Extensive experience developing timber sales, administering timber sales, and/or buying timber.
+ Knowledge/experience with GIS and applicable timber management technology, systems, and tools.
+ Effective oral and written communication, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
+ Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively establish priorities with limited direct supervision while in the field.
+ Active membership in the Society of American Foresters and the Alabama Forestry Association is preferred.

This role is based at the Forestry & Lake Management office in Dadeville, AL, and requires frequent daily travel, with occasional overnight trips as needed.
