Teacher Assistant Job Description
The Lower School Library Assistant assists the Lower School Librarian (teacher). Teacher Assistants at The Brook Hill School report to the classroom teacher and the Principal over their assigned division or department. They are responsible for supporting the care of students and assisting in instructional and classroom activities under the guidance of the lead teacher or academic support team. Teacher Assistants are expected to model a Christian worldview, demonstrate servant leadership, and contribute to a positive and collaborative learning environment. As part of the broader Brook Hill team, they help foster academic excellence and student development by partnering with teachers and staff in fulfilling the school's mission.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
+ Support instructional delivery by assisting the classroom teacher or interventionist with implementing lesson plans, providing small group instruction, or reinforcing learning through guided practice and activities.
+ Assist in classroom management by helping maintain a structured, welcoming, and organized learning environment.
+ Provide academic support by working with individual students or small groups to reinforce instruction, review material, or support intervention goals under the direction of the teacher or academic support team.
+ Monitor and document student behavior and engagement, sharing observations with the lead teacher to inform instructional decisions and student support plans.
+ Prepare instructional materials and resources as directed, including organizing learning stations, preparing manipulatives, copying handouts, or setting up technology.
+ Support social and emotional development by modeling respectful behavior, encouraging positive peer interactions, and assisting with conflict resolution as appropriate.
+ Supervise students in the classroom, during transitions, and in other school settings (e.g., recess, lunch, chapel, or arrival/dismissal) to ensure safety and appropriate conduct.
+ Collaborate and communicate regularly with the assigned teacher and team to ensure alignment of support strategies and student needs.
+ Participate in school and team meetings, professional development sessions, and trainings as required.
+ Contribute to the broader mission of Brook Hill by demonstrating servant leadership and participating in school activities and events as appropriate.
+ Maintain a safe and clean learning environment by following classroom procedures and supporting the teacher in implementing routines and safety protocols.
