• Mechanical Design Engineer

    US Tech Solutions (Corning, NY)


    Duration: 12-month contract

    Job Description:

    + A senior mechanical design engineer responsible for providing detailed mechanical designs of precision motion systems and custom precision tooling or fixturing.

    + Responsible for all aspects of the design, build and debug of equipment including vendor management.

    + Hands-on mechanical support for the installation, start-up and debug of fiber/connector manufacturing process equipment. This includes working with a multi-functional team (mechanical, electrical, controls, facilities, IT, operations, etc.)

    + Involves the application of mechanical principles encompassed in mechanics, hydraulics, thermodynamics, metallurgy, and machine design used for the design, production, operation, and use of machinery of all types.

    + Work closely with internal project team to understand design requirements.

    + Independently determines and develops approaches to solutions.

    + Responsible for installation and debug at R&D facility and factory site.

    + Provide hands on input and insight into equipment installation and troubleshooting.

    + Verify equipment build and layout against drawings.

    + Confer with the engineers and vendors to resolve equipment install or build discrepancies.

    Experience:

    + Experience designing and building precision motion systems.

    + 10+ years of mechanical equipment design experience.

    + Experience with design, install, start-up and debug of robust mechanical equipment suitable for the manufacturing environment.

    + Ability to effectively manage mechanical and electrical trades executing equipment install and debug.

    + Knowledge of machine guarding and safety practices and standards (OSHA, etc.)

    Skills:

    + Strong understanding of precision engineering principles

    + Proficient with SolidWorks

    + Competent with structural FEA analysis.

    + Good written and oral communication skills

    + Ability to collaborate and work with diverse teams (skills, gender, culture, race, etc.)

    Education:

    Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
