    POSITION OVERVIEW

    DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking a Custodian (Part-time) to join its Greenspace Operations Division. The potential candidate will play a key role in the following duties:

     

    + Perform janitorial services including floor mopping, polishing, stripping and waxing; rug vacuuming and shampooing; furniture dusting and polishing; window washing; and furniture unloading and moving.

    + Clean Cabins, Kitchen/Cafeteria, Bunk Houses

    + Clean restrooms

    + Empty trash and set out for collection

    + Order cleaning supplies and maintaining cleaning equipment

    + Perform other related maintenance/janitorial services as requested

    + Perform other duties as requested

    + Report problems and hazardous conditions to designated authority

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. There are routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    Very fundamental levels of the ability to read, write and follow simple oral instructions as might normally be acquired through up to 8 years of formal schooling.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    No experience is required.

    PREFERENCES:

    + Preference will be given to applicants with a valid Texas Driver's license.

     

    Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
