General Statement of Job
The Boca Raton Public Library empowers our community to discover, connect, and create through quality collections and resources, information assistance, educational programs, and lifelong learning opportunities. The Boca Raton Library has four service centers – the Spanish River Library, the Downtown Library, Mobile Library Services, and the Digital Library.
Under the direction of a Library Assistant II Page Supervisor, part time Library Page positions are responsible for the general organization of library materials, including shelving and assessing condition, so that library users can find and enjoy popular and engaging books, media, games, and other library materials.
Essential Functions
+ Sorts and shelves books and other library materials, and maintains library materials shelves in proper alphabetical, numerical or chronological order
+ Locates books and other library materials on shelves and balances materials between locations.
+ Assesses the condition of library materials, weeds out-of-date or damaged materials, and performs light cleaning or repairs.
+ Removes, replaces, or affixes labels to pockets, cards, and spines.
+ Interacts helpfully with patrons to assist them in locating library materials and facilities. Answers directional or basic procedural inquiries.
+ Assists with library-wide events, offers reading recommendations, and maintains displays.
+ Enforces the Rules of Conduct, library policies, and maintains order at the libraries.
+ Does related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
+ Library principles, methods, materials, and practices.
+ Reader interests, books, and authors.
+ The objectives of a public library.
Skilled in:
+ Reading and alphabetizing accurately to place materials in proper order.
+ Evaluating tasks and priorities to complete work accurately and efficiently.
+ Basic skills in the use of email, cell phones, computers, workplace software applications such as Outlook, and peripheral devices such as printers.
Ability to:
+ Understand how the library is organized, including sections, shelves, aisles and other library spaces.
+ Accurately sort and file materials alphabetically, numerically, and chronologically.
+ Accurately shelve using the Dewey Decimal System and other organizational methods.
+ Carefully handle library materials, using appropriate tools, containers and book carts.
+ Assist patrons to locate materials and refer patrons to other appropriate assistance in the library.
+ Establish and maintain working relationships with patrons, partners and co-workers.
+ Serve the public and interact with co-workers with honesty and integrity.
+ Understand, follow, and explain policies and procedures, and submit forms.
+ Express ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing.
+ Perform basic mathematical calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
+ Ability to work mornings, days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as necessary.
+ Bend, stoop, twist, and reach to shelve or move a variety of library materials.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
+ 16 years of age.
+ Completed a minimum of two years of High School.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Six (6) months of experience working with the public.
+ High School diploma or GED Equivalent
+ Experience working in a public service setting assisting customers, restocking inventory, or maintaining displays as an employee or a volunteer.

CITY OF BOCA RATON - BENEFITS SUMMARY
Part-Time Employees
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: To be eligible to receive Paid Leave and to contribute to the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, a part-time employee must have worked at least 1,040 hours in the prior fiscal year
PAID LEAVE: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will receive twelve (12) hours of Paid Leave on October 1st. This Paid Leave shall be used no later than September 30th of that fiscal year or it will be forfeited. These hours may not accumulate and may only be granted with the approval of the employee's supervisor. This paid leave has no cash value at separation of employment.
MISSION SQUARE 457 DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will be allowed to participate in the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. The City will not provide any matching funds.
