    Position Summary

    The current vacancies are in the Community Corrections department. The eligibility list created by these vacancies may be used to hire other vacancies in the department.

     

    The Facility Probation Officer is responsible for overseeing and supporting residents within a juvenile detention facility, ensuring safety, compliance with regulations, and providing rehabilitative services. The role involves supervising daily activities, enforcing rules, and intervening during emergencies. Probation officers are expected to maintain security, conduct investigations, and manage disciplinary matters while contributing to a structured, safe, and rehabilitative environment.

     

    To engage clients and families in the process of change, providing interventions that promote positive outcomes, hold clients accountable, and monitor client compliance with court orders, state corrections directives, facility rules, and other applicable regulations. Case management and program services are delivered across juvenile and adult facilities, as well as in juvenile probation and adult probation/parole, and domestic relations, in collaboration with Courts and other community justice partners.

    This position follows a 4/10 shift schedule.

     

    + Friday: 12:30pm-10:30pm

    + Saturday: 12:30pm-10:30pm

    + Sunday: 6:30am-4:30pm

    + Monday: 6:30am-4:30pm

     

    Examples of Work Performed

     

    + Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client activity, utilizing department and client data systems to ensure proper documentation and reporting.

    + Maintain regular, punctual attendance, adhering to the standards set by the ADA, FMLA, and all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.

    + Provide effective program supervision and deliver rehabilitative services to clients, both on an individual basis and in group settings, to support their progress and development.

    + Supervise residents in all aspects of juvenile facility programming, including ensuring adherence to rules, regulations, and policies to maintain safety and security for both clients and staff.

    + Provide individualized and group rehabilitative services, promoting personal growth and behavior modification in residents.

    + Enforce disciplinary practices in line with facility protocols, including reporting violations and applying appropriate sanctions.

    + Conduct regular security checks of the building, living quarters, work areas, and searches for contraband to ensure compliance with safety standards.

    + Carry out internal investigations regarding behavioral issues or incidents within the facility.

    + Perform duties assigned by a supervisor on rotating shifts to ensure staffing needs are met in a 24/7 operational environment.

    + Respond to emergency situations and assist in critical incidents using appropriate levels of intervention, which may include physical restraint when necessary.

     

    (The work assigned to a position in this classification may not include all possible tasks in this work and does not limit the assignment of any additional tasks in this classification. Regular attendance according to the position’s management approved work schedule is required.)

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: Bachelors Degree.

     

    Experience: None.

     

    Substitution: Equivalent combination of education and related experience.

     

    Certifications/Licensure: Valid Driver’s License; depending on assignment.

     

    Exam/Screening Process Information

    The examination process will consist of the following section with each section weighted as indicated:

    + Training and Experience Rating = 100%

     

    The examination for Probation Officer will consist of a training and experience rating, comprised of the questions in the attached supplemental questionnaire. Not all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will pass the training and experience rating. The rating on this supplemental questionnaire will depend on your answers to the questions – do not mark “see resume” or “see work history” as a response. Please answer all your questions clearly and completely. Failure to respond could affect your score and final rank on this examination.

     

    Eligible List: The names of all applicants who have submitted a completed application and passed the examination/screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for an employment opportunity as a Probation Officer. This list will be certified to the appointing authority which may use this list to conduct interviews to fill a vacancy. Applicants will remain on the list for 60 days or until hired, whichever occurs first. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time the eligible list is posted.

     

    Veteran's Preference: This is a classified position requiring an open, competitive selection process. Veteran's Preference points will be applied after a candidate passes the examination process. Applicants who are eligible for veteran's preference should update their veteran's DD214, and other supporting documents, and submit them as an attachment at the time of application.

     

    Criminal Background Checks: All employment offers are conditioned upon the applicant passing a criminal background check. Convictions are not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered on its individual merits and the type of work sought. However, making false statements or withholding information will cause you to be barred from employment, or removed from employment.
