    Essential functions (job duties):

    Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, provide scientific and technical assistance to complete laboratory based, clinical or population science research. May assist in writing research protocols and in manuscript preparation. Design and perform research protocols independently or as directed through training in more difficult or specialized procedures to meet the needs of the research protocol.

     

    With the assistance of the Principal Investigator, find and write research grants with the goal of obtaining additional research grant funding. Responsibilities may also include c oordinating correspondence with applicants and grantees, acknowledging receipts of proposals, and maintaining a system to track proposals.

     

    Perform laboratory based scientific techniques or clinical/population science (human subjects) research. Design and perform experiments, recruit participants for studies by developing surveys and interviewing candidates. Participate in implementing research objectives, ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines. A ssist staff with experiments/ research protocols as required. Communicate with principal investigator and Postdoctoral scholars/fellows on the status of research.

     

    Collect and log laboratory results, clinical outcomes and/or survey data. Evaluate and perform data analysis using graphs, charts or tables to highlight the key points of the research results collected in accordance with the research protocols as stipulated. P roofread and edit research data and documents to ensure accuracy.

     

    Prepare and present presentations regarding research project results for professional, scientific and academic conferences. Summarize and organize data results for submittal to academic and scholarly, peer-reviewed journals. W rite scientific manuscripts and other documents for publication. Fact-check , proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy.

     

    Maintain the laboratory work areas including routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as required. Order and organize required research supplies and records. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work station.

     

    Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Unique duties:

    Write and edit scientific documents including research manuscripts, grant proposals, technical reports, and supporting materials such as abstracts, biosketches, and letters of support. Create and design educational and communication materials such as brochures, presentations, infographics, and web content to support internal and external research initiatives. Collaborate with faculty and research teams to gather technical information, clarify scientific concepts, and ensure content accuracy and consistency across communications. Provide editorial support for grant applications, ensuring clarity, coherence, adherence to agency guidelines, and compelling narrative structure for competitive submissions. Develop and maintain templates, style guides, and other tools to enhance the efficiency and consistency of proposal development and research communications. Participate in the development of online resources and writing tools to guide faculty through the proposal preparation process. Facilitate and support meetings and workshops focused on proposal planning, team science, strategic planning, and professional development in scientific writing and communication. Stay current on funding trends and best practices in scientific writing by engaging in ongoing learning and professional development opportunities. Manage multiple writing projects simultaneously, balancing deadlines and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to meet institutional research goals.

    Qualifications:

    Education: Doctorate degree

     

    Requires advanced knowledge predominantly intellectual in character in a field of science or learning acquired

     

    by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction.

     

    Experience: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)

     

    Experience performing basic research techniques, preferred. Must have distinguished themselves in research.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Ability to work independently. Ability to secure grants and funding for research. Ability to analyze, summarize

     

    and interpret research findings in reports and communicate results. Knowledge of scientific integrity principles. Excellent time management and organization skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to

     

    work with others in a collaborative environment. Microsoft office software skills.

    Preferred qualifications:

    Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific information into clear, concise, and engaging language for diverse audiences. Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with attention to accuracy, grammar, style, and consistency. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, meet tight deadlines, and work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and document formatting tools; familiarity with citation/reference management software (e.g., EndNote, Zotero). Ability to interact effectively with researchers, administrators, and cross-functional teams. Knowledge of scientific publishing standards and grant writing conventions. Experience supporting large, interdisciplinary grant applications (e.g., NIH, NSF, DoD, or foundation funding). Familiarity with federal and foundation funding mechanisms, especially institutionally limited submissions and internal seed funding programs. Working knowledge of graphics tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, PowerPoint design, Canva) to assist with visual storytelling in scientific proposals. Previous experience working in a research development office or academic research support environment. Familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI) tools and applications to enhance scientific writing, including content generation, literature summarization, data visualization, and proposal development. Experience using AI-powered platforms for tasks such as grammar refinement, citation management, or concept mapping (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, Scite, Elicit). Understanding of AI trends in research communication, including responsible use of AI in scientific content creation and review.
