    Description of Job

    Position is responsible for accepting hunter-harvested deer and elk heads, recording data, money handling, collecting tissue samples for chronic wasting disease (CWD) testing, and other duties as assigned. Will maintain, sanitize, and handle equipment safely along with cleaning the walk-in cooler and office space. Training is provided on how to remove tissue samples from deer and elk for CWD testing and to perform mandatory inspections of hunter-harvested moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, black bears, bobcats, and mountain lions. Position will also assist the front desk staff with selling licenses/park passes and with registrations of vehicles (boats, OHVs, and snowmobiles). Will have

     

    opportunities to gain field experience by assisting biologists/researchers with projects or by going on ride-alongs with wildlife officers.

    UNIFORMS:

    The office will provide uniform items.

     

    Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Valid driver’s license required. Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions and lift 50lbs. Ability to interact positively with the public in various situations. Hunting experience is helpful.

    BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

    + Must be 18 years of age or older

    + Must have a current & valid driver’s license or reliable transportation

    + The work-site will provide some uniform items, however the employee may be required to purchase limited uniform items at their own expense.

    + Applicants may be subject to successful completion of a comprehensive background check.

    + Must be willing and able to work 40 hours per week.

    + Ability to work well within a team

    + Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources degree or similar education.

    + Previous experience handling money and working with the public preferred.

    + Possess strong interpersonal communication skills to deliver excellent customer service.

    + Basic computer skills required (MS Office Suite, Google App Suite)

     

    Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1W0g2QAGmusbXBJzL3HxhGitIZOEKnwhrFnx9GqVcQHA/preview?tab=t.0) , any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle.

    To be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who:

    + Have an assigned State fleet vehicle

    + Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position

    + Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle
