    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Prevention Network Support & Community Change Organizer will be responsible for providing the Network and its Member Programs with technical assistance and training on issues that relate to prevention and community engagement. In addition, they are responsible for facilitating the comprehensive environmental approach with the Network Members. They will work closely with the Prevention Network Data Analyst and Prevention Network Coordinator to gather community needs assessment data to identify the specific environmental factors that lead to substance misuse, gambling, and related negative consequences. RiseBoro is seeking a leader with experience in policy advocacy, community organizing, and the social service sector. Key goals for this project include building a network of social service providers to inform and execute a policy campaign that prioritizes rebuilding the social safety net. Additionally, the Prevention Network Support & Community Change Organizer will work with Prevention Providers, Community Organizers, Schools, and Parent Serving Organizations to address environmental issues that impact the quality of life of Brooklyn families and children. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

     

    + Co-facilitate weekly Prevention Network Membership Meetings to provide opportunities for members to discuss internal operational issues, learn about the political process, discuss current events impacting the community, and identify upcoming advocacy and organizing opportunities

    + Facilitate Community Organizing Leadership Development Training Program with the Prevention Network Coordinator and core Prevention Network member leaders, developing a living curriculum for Prevention Network Members based upon current needs assessment data and community priorities, designed for our most active members to deepen their skills and knowledge base to become their own best advocates and community leaders

    + Research, design, coach, and pilot a small program for 3-5 core Prevention Network member leaders to facilitate identified Evidence-Based Programs for community members (parents, youth, and families) with the Prevention Network Coordinator and Associate Director of Clinical Services

    + Develop community-facing materials to share information, needs assessment data, survey results, and materials with other agencies interested in integrating community organizing into their service model with the Prevention Network Coordinator and Data Analyst

    + Host community listening sessions with outreach members and conduct issue-based research to refine campaign context and direction

    + Conduct regular outreach to build awareness and increase member participation in the OASAS Strategic Prevention Framework, Evidence-Based Practice Curriculum, Promising Practice Programs, Screening Brief Intervention Referral and Treatment (SBIRT), and new mental health / social-emotional health organizing initiatives directed toward youth, parents, and families

    + Identify and develop member leaders through one-on-ones, collaboration with the NYC Prevention Resource Center, Membership Meetings, and other forms of member engagement

    + Network with other groups that organize prevention intervention campaigns in New York and connect the RiseBoro Prevention Network members to those campaigns

    + Maintain updated statistics about member involvement in designated databases

    + Collaborate with RiseBoro Prevention Network staff to provide holistic support to all members

    + Actively participate in organizational planning, needs assessment, key improvement indicators, and continuous quality improvement with RiseBoro Prevention Network staff

    COMPETENCIES

    + Demonstrated experience as an Organizer, Social Work, and/or professional in the Mental Health field

    + Timeliness and responsiveness to key stakeholders, director, and director reports

    + Ability to teach professional development fundamentals to staff

    + Ability to maintain a growth mindset in a fast-paced environment

    + Ability to ground themselves in the Prevention Network principles, Key Performance Indicators, and Continuous Quality Improvement plan.

    + Close attention to detail, responsibility, and dependability in data reporting to external and internal database platforms

    + Ability to multi-task, engage in follow-up with tasks delegated, and follow through with strategic plans

    + Aptitude to integrate business writing into professional correspondence and written communication

    + Ability to closely supervise evidence-based treatment interventions to ensure fidelity

    + Capacity to follow a specific training philosophy that prioritizes principles over rules

    + Proficiency in coaching staff through practice-based learning

    + Analytic skills to maintain Continuous Quality Improvement in the delivery of services

    + Implementation of accountability structures and regular tracking of programmatic goals and outcomes

    + Exceptional critical thinking, problem-solving, and skills

    + Proficiency in the Windows Operating System and MS Office Suite, specifically Word, and Excel; experience with web-based learning and reporting platforms i.e. (WITNYS) Web Infrastructure for Technology (New York) Services

    + Knowledge and experience with individual, family, group modalities and crisis intervention techniques

    + Command and understanding of interventions for individuals with mental health issues

    + Skilled in working with hard-to-reach or distant individuals and families

    + Flexibility to attend community organizing events and facilitate sessions when the families are available to meet, which may include evenings and weekends

    + Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    + Ability to innovate and collaboratively work to contribute to the Prevention Network philosophy.

    + Commitment to work with others, respect, elevate, and center cultural proficiency

    + Poses skills to engage families who may not want the service

    + Ability to adapt and individualize program interventions to utilize family strengths and skills

    + Commitment to empowering families to solve their problems

    + Ability to intervene decisively, when necessary, to protect family members

    + Effectiveness in establishing mutually respectful relationships in which the family is a full partner, and participants are empowered to solve their problems

    + Ability to set appropriate boundaries and limits for best practice

    + Ability to appropriately handle crises

    + Commitment to RiseBoro’s mission, vision, and values

    + Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities

    + Have a demonstrated commitment to supporting communities who have experienced systemic oppression and bias i.e., people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice-involved persons, etc.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    + High School Diploma or GED equivalent required

    + Bachelor's Degree preferred

    + 1 – 3 years of experience working as an Organizer, Social Work, and/or Mental Health field required
