    Who We Are

     

    Disability Resources (DR) is one of twelve departments housed in the Division of Student Affairs. Disability Resources staff members interact and collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to achieve an accessible learning environment for students with disabilities at Texas A&M University.

     

    Disability Resources provides accommodations coordination for around 5,900 students, including accommodations for testing (extended time and reduced-distraction environment), classroom access (copies of PowerPoints and audio recording of lectures), assistive technology (accessible course materials and text-to-speech support) and communication access (captioning and American Sign Language interpreting). We promote accessibility as a shared responsibility throughout the campus community and strive to provide a welcoming campus for disabled students.

     

    What We Want

     

    The Access Coordinator II position works directly with students with disabilities to identify barriers and determine reasonable accommodations. This role collaborates with faculty and staff to promote accessibility and equity in the learning environment and serves as a resource to the campus community.

    What You Need To Know

    + These positions will require extended hours during the four days of finals in the Fall (December) and Spring (May) semesters.

    + Some nights and weekends are required.

    + Salary : $51,750/annually

    Responsibilities

    + Case Management: Provide on-going service and case management to students with disabilities. This includes direct assistance, individual advocacy, and referrals to appropriate campus services and programs. Provide services that address the unique needs of students with disabilities and focus particularly on those strategies needed by students at Texas A&M University.

    + Accommodations Determination: Conduct interviews with each student requesting accommodations. This includes obtaining, interpreting, and verifying information provided by the student. Through an interactive process with each student, evaluate the student’s disability and its effect on academic performance and participation in campus life and determine appropriate accommodations.

    + Administrative Duties: Work supportively within the department, providing coverage to the main office and testing center when assigned. Assist as needed with exam accommodations.

    + Consultation: Provide consultation to faculty, campus units, and departments regarding accessibility issues and laws. Provide consultation and training to campus and community agencies. Serve as a resource on the needs and rights of students with disabilities.

    + Representation: Serve on University, Division and Departmental committees and task forces. Keep updated on research and best practices related to students with disabilities in higher education.

    QualificationsRequired Education & Experience:

    + Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + One or more years of experience in student affairs work or related specialty.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Master’s Degree in a directly related field (i.e. Counseling, Student Affairs, Educational Technology, Higher Education Administration, Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work). Experience working with people with disabilities.

    + Experience providing services to students with disabilities in a college or university setting.

    + Related extra-curricular experience and/or student development experiences.

    + Knowledge of disability law as it applies to higher education.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Ability to relate well to the unique needs of college students with disabilities, including a desire to work one-on-one with these students to help meet their academic needs.

    + Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
