    TITLE:School Counselor at Intermediate School (Grades 4-6)

     

    REPORTS TO:Principal

    Position Purpose:

    The School Counselor supports the academic, career and social-emotional development of all students through a comprehensive, date-informed school counseling program. The counselor collaborates with administrators, teachers, staff, families and community partners to create a safe and supportive environment where students are empowered to succeed.

    Responsibilities:

    + Provide individual and group counseling to students to address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral concerns.

    + Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plan meetings to support students and families in compliance with federal and state regulations.

    + Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop and implement strategies to support the academic, social, and emotional needs of students.

    + Coordinate with community support services and outside agencies to provide additional support and services for students and families as needed. (Including but not limited to accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology.)

    + Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of counseling services and support services provided to students.

    + Provide classroom lessons on bullying prevention, conflict resolution, study skills, and social-emotional learning.

    + Implement school-wide initiatives to promote a positive school climate and prevent bullying and harassment.

    + Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling services, IEPs, and support services provided to students in compliance with state and federal regulations.

    + Stay up to date with federal and state regulations related to counseling services and participate in professional development opportunities.

    Qualifications:

    + Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field from an accredited institution.

    + Iowa School Counselor certification or eligibility for certification.

    + Previous experience working as a school counselor is preferred.

    + Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

    + Ability to work collaboratively with other educators, parents, and community agencies.?

    + Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

    + Knowledge of counseling techniques and best practices in social-emotional learning

    + Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards related to school counseling.

     

    FLSA Status: Exempt
