    Description

    As a **GIS Analys** t with AMS, your office is wherever data meets the real world. Whether mapping utility corridors in urban centers or analyzing terrain in remote forests, you play a critical role in supporting safe and efficient utility operations. As an AMS GIS Analyst, you will transform spatial data into actionable insights that help keep the lights on and communities safe.

     

    Some of the most important characteristics of an AMS GIS Analyst are attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to communicate complex spatial information clearly. You are accountable for advancing a culture of safety and excellence while providing quality and value to our customers and clients.

     

    The pay range for this position is from $20.00 to $30.00 per hour, contingent upon relevant education, experience, and industry-specific certifications. This specified range is determined by the tier associated with the job posting. However, should the employee be classified under a different tier, the compensation may fall outside the stated range.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO:

    + Analyze and interpret spatial data to support utility vegetation management (UVM) programs and infrastructure planning

    + Create, maintain, and update GIS databases, maps, and dashboards

    + Perform spatial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities

    + Respond to data inquiries & support field crews and arborists with reports, maps, spreadsheets, etc.

    + Manage specialized databases and spreadsheets, entering data and generating reports with proficiency in Microsoft Excel

    + Collaborate with field teams to integrate GPS-collected data into GIS systems

    + Generate reports and visualizations to support decision-making and regulatory compliance

    + Ensure data accuracy and consistency across platforms and projects

    + Support QA/QC processes for spatial data and field-collected information

    + Assist in developing and maintaining automated workflows using GIS tools and scripting

    + Travel may be required for field data collection or coordination with field teams

    WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE:

    + 1-2 years of experience working with GIS software and databases, including ESRI Suite

    + Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS)

    + Experience with spatial data formats and coordinate systems

    + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    + Ability to work independently,manage multiple tasks, and show attention to detail

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    + Basic programming/scripting knowledge (e.g., Python, SQL) is a plus

    + Valid driver’s license and ability to travel if needed

    WHAT WOULD BE AMAZING TO HAVE:

    + Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or a related field

    + Experience in utility or environmental GIS applications

    + Familiarity with GPS data collection tools and mobile GIS apps

    + Certification such as GISP or Esri Technical Certification

    + Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) a plus

     

    Working Environment

     

    Primarily office-based with occasional fieldwork; may involve travel to utility corridors or remote locations. Work may include exposure to various weather conditions and terrain.     Physical

     

    Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods, operate a computer and related equipment, and occasionally travel to field sites. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and walk on uneven terrain may be required for field data collection.
