Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Travis Air Force Base Aero Club located in Rio Vista, CA. Eligible to use base facilities such as; Base Exchange (BX), Gym, Outdoor Rec, Library, Marina, Golf Course, Bowling Center & Arts & Crafts. Physical Effort: Lifts and carries parts and equipment weighing 50 pounds. Tuition Assistance after one year! Responsibilities Makes repairs to a variety of systems, assemblies, and surfaces such as; hydraulic, oil, fuel, and pressurization systems, landing gear assemblies, ailerons, and flaps. Uses test stands and cockpit gauges, instruments, and controls as well as visual checks to trouble shoot defects and determine the type and extent of repair needed. Installs, aligns, and adjusts whole new systems, assemblies and surfaces as needed, or repairs them by installing and adjusting all defective components and parts such as complete cable riggings, rudder pedals, pumps and controls. Connects up related systems, such as the hydraulic and cable systems, to the newly-installed or repaired units, and makes adjustments to the units and their related mechanisms that assure their proper operation. Diagnoses and corrects malfunctions of aircraft system IAW FSS, AF, and manufacturer's procedures. Completes all the work necessary to maintain airworthiness of all aircraft. Maintains tools and work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe and operational condition. Performs preflight and ground run to identify aircraft discrepancies to be resolved during the inspection. Performs post flight ground check of aircraft systems as necessary to ensure proper operation. Performs required aircraft inspections IAW FAR Part 43 in coordination with other independent service maintenance contractors. Inspects and approves for return to service any aircraft or related part of appliances after a major repair or major alteration to it in accordance with CFAR 14 PRT 43. Maintains aircraft logbooks and records, computerized or written, ensuring they are available and current. Ensures that records are ready and available for review by FAA inspectors and others. Qualifying Experience: Must have technical experience and knowledge of the make-up, operation, and installation of a variety of aircraft systems, assemblies, and surfaces such as fuel hydraulic systems, landing gear assemblies, and surfaces that can be repaired through replacement of new parts and components, and the types and extent of adjustment and alignment required. Must have full knowledge of equipment, tools and cockpit instruments and controls. Must have skill in the removal, replacement, and adjustment of various systems, assemblies, and surfaces or any of their components and parts. Must have skill in connecting, meshing, aligning, and adjusting the surfaces, assemblies and systems with one another. Must have a current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certificate with Inspection Authorization (IA) IAW FAR Part 65. Must be able to follow written and/or oral instructions. Must have a valid driver's license. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
