Job Description Summary:
This position is responsible for the effective direction, management and operation of the infection prevention program. Uses relevant evidence based guidelines and recommendations, epidemiological and implementation science theories in daily work to prevent infections and control outbreaks. Requires strong critical thinking skills and ability to work independently. Excellent communication, collaborative and leadership skills required to work with interdisciplinary teams. This role serves as a content expert consultant, influencer and educator to the healthcare team, patients, family and community. Ability to quickly make and implement decisions as required to control outbreaks and prevent the ongoing transmission of infections.
Responsibilities And Duties:

Functional Knowledge 1. Requires in-depth knowledge of the following technical domains for preventing infections: Identification of Infectious Disease Processes Surveillance and Epidemiologic Investigation Preventing/Controlling the Transmission of Infectious Agents Employee/Occupational Health 2. Evaluates effectiveness of infection prevention program and institutional needs on an ongoing basis to create and revise program goals and objectives 3. Uses performance improvement tools to facilitate implementation and monitoring of evidence based guidelines 4. Partners with teams to identify areas for improving infection prevention practices and facilitates infection prevention projects. 5. Uses adult education principles to provide effective education to a wide variety of audiences 6. Provides consultation on policies and practices based on current regulatory/accreditation requirements and evidence based guidelines 10 % Business Expertise 1. Has knowledge of best practice initiatives through national and regional organizations. 2. Stays well informed of evolving infectious disease threats and takes necessary actions 3. Has knowledge of internal and external influences to program priorities such as changing regulatory, reporting or reimbursement issues

Leadership 1. Leads projects and teams using facilitative skills and performance improvement tools to improve processes and prevent infections 2. Mentors and develops associates on infection prevention and process improvement methods. 3. Performs on-going self-assessment to create and revise professional development plan. 10 % Problem Solving 1. Uses epidemiological models to determine possible sources of infection and prevention methods 2. Implements control measures based on possible source and transmission modes during outbreaks 3. Leads teams to solve complex problems using data interpretation, stakeholder input, critical review of evidence based research and team facilitation. 5 % Impact 1. Impacts safety of patients, associates and visitors 2. Impacts care providers practice to decrease the risk of infections

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (Required)
Additional Job Description:
Field of Study: a health related field from four-year college or university; or prior Experience in Infection Control Field Knowledge of principles of epidemiology, infection control, infectious diseases and microbiology. strong communication skills, knowledge of regulatory agency requirements (JCAHO, CDC, NIOSH, ODH, etc. ). Computer knowledge using Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows-Type programs, Windows 9 5 , PowerPoint, Epinet Access, etc. programs. 2 yrs. clinical Experience in hospital/healthcare setting.
