    JOB PURPOSE:

    Working under the direct supervision of the Pharmacy Manager, the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor is responsible for managing a staff of pharmacy technicians in support of pharmacy dispensing operations.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Supervises staff of Pharmacy Dispensing Technicians by interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, making work assignments and evaluating job performance.

    2. Establishes work procedures in collaboration with Pharmacy Manager and assigns priority to coordinate workflow for pharmacy dispensing activities.

    3. Performs routine staff duties of Pharmacy Technician including, but not limited to, selecting correct medication for order to be dispensed, packing medication in appropriate container, generating labels, stocking supplies, filling of emergency boxes as required, filling pre-pack medications for stock and dispensing.

    4. Provides assistance to Pharmacy Manager regarding personnel actions, workflow and dispensing operations.

    5. Coordinates shift replacements for proper manpower coverage and schedules students to assist Pharmacist.

    6. Recommends policies and procedures for workflow operations and updates policies and procedures as necessary under Pharmacy Manager supervision and approval.

    7. Supervises completion and documentation of medication storage area inspections at least monthly.

    8. Collects data, conducts quality monitors and completes documentation as assigned.

    9. Orients and trains new partners.

    10. Develops training procedures and continuing education programs for Pharmacy Dispensing Technicians.

    11. Oversees dispensing operations with regards to controlled (scheduled) medications that include, but are not limited to, packing, dispensing, stocking supplies/medications, maintaining records, and conducting periodic inventory of controlled (scheduled) medication stock.

    12. Periodically assesses the FrameworkLTC Batch Status Monitor and other automated tools to determine workflow, dispensing, and toting needs. This includes notifying other departments (Order Entry, Pharmacists, Triage) of workflow needs.

    13. Keeps supervisor informed of daily activities, and issues

    14. Must get along with co-workers; maintain effective relationships with management staff, employees and the general public

    15. Must have timely, regular attendance.

    16. Follows all company policies and procedures, state and federal laws and regulations and charged with reporting violations to the appropriate supervisor.

    17. Carries out all duties with a “Commitment to Caring” and in accordance with the company’s mission, vision, and philosophy.

    18. All other duties as assigned by supervisor

    19. Participate in center/agency surveys (Licensure / JCAHO) and any subsequently required reports.

    20. Attend and participate in continuing educational programs to keep abreast of changes in your field as well as to maintain current license/certification, as required.

    21. Attend and participate in mandatory inservices.

    22. Honor patients/residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints.

    23. Comply with corporate compliance program.

    24. Report job-related functions/tasks that involve occupational hazards including exposure to blood and body fluids and others as necessary.

    25. Follow established safety regulations, to include fire protection & prevention, smoking regulations, infection control, etc.

    26. Follow established safety procedures when performing tasks and/or working with equipment

    Licensure/Certification/Education Requirements:

    High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience

     

    Pharmacy Technician Certification

     

    2-year Pharmacy Technician experience preferred

    Other Training, Skills, and Experience Requirements:

    Medical terminology and knowledge of medication names

     

    Knowledge of inventory procedures

     

    Ability to supervise Pharmacy Technicians

    Ability to effectively use equipment such as packing and pre-packing machines
