Summary:
The UNC Health Faculty Physicians (FP) is the faculty practice arm of the UNC School of Medicine and the UNC Medical Center and the third largest entity within the greater UNC Health system. The Chief Operating Officer, UNC Faculty Physicians (COO) plays a critical role in the success of the FP organization. This role partners with the FP President, overseeing FP’s day-to-day operations along with the support of an administrative team. This role ensures FP operates efficiently, support the delivery of exceptional patient care through the efforts of the clinical departments and their faculty, and help advance the overall strategic goals of UNC Health Faculty Physicians and the greater UNC Health system.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead and direct all operational aspects of FP, including supporting the growth and development of clinical services through contracting, physical and programmatic expansion, and oversight of APP Center. Develop and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
2. Support clinical departments in the development and implementation of new programs and initiatives to enhance patient care and service delivery.
3. Partner with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to develop and manage FP’s annual operating budget, as well as that of the clinical departments. Monitor financial performance and identify areas for cost savings and revenue improvement. Ensure financial resources are allocated effectively to support operational objectives.
4. Build strong relationships with the physician and operational leaders within the school of medicine and the medical center. Collaborate on initiatives to enhance physician engagement and satisfaction.

Qualifications
Education Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in healthcare management or business administration required. Master's degree preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
• None required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
• Requires a minimum of twelve (12) years of experience, with at least ten (10) years of management experience.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
• Understands the overarching System operations and policies that guide the organization including the integration of a clinical practice in achieving the tripartite mission of UNC’s Academic Medical Center. Drives and develops innovative ideas and solutions with significance to the organization’s future. Identifies problem areas and skill gaps proactively and addresses them appropriately. Excellent project management and change management skills for designing and implementing high priority System or business group initiatives in a complex environment.
