*Position Summary:*

The Laboratory Assistant performs technical and clerical functions in one or more sections of the laboratory. Specific duties include:

* Obtains venous and capillary blood specimens.

* Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.

* Maintains adequate stock of supplies.

* Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.

* Performs clerical duties including answering phones, data entry, and filing.

* Communicates test results to appropriate healthcare providers.

* Performs collection of other physiologic samples as required such as bleeding times, sweat chlorides, and therapeutic phlebotomies.

* Prepares and transports specimens to laboratory for analysis.Uses the pneumatic tube system.

* Performs and results waived testing procedures after training and successful competency evaluation.

* Identifies problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and notifies MLT, MT, supervisor or director immediately.

* Follows laboratory’s established policies and procedures.

* Documents any corrective action taken when situation deviates from established characteristics on the remedial/corrective action logs. Notifies MT, supervisor of immediate concerns.

* Loads analyzers for technologist

*Minimum Qualifications:*

* *Certifications:*Basic Life Support (BLS) within 60 days of hire.
