Job Description
The Iowa Judicial Branch, in Des Moines, Iowa, seeks applicants for a Finance Manager position. This position will oversee the finance operations and manage the judicial officer retirement program.
The successful incumbent can expect to process monthly judicial retirement payments, monthly judicial retirement state taxes and invoices for senior judges Medicare Part D and supplemental plans. This position will also audit claims and daily cash receipts, assist with developing fiscal year forecasts and will be responsible for sections of the yearly financial statements provided to the state. This position will supervise part of the financial team.
The successful candidate will be able to explain and apply GAAP, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a strong attention to details.
This position may be eligible for hybrid work, or located within the state of Iowa, or possible remote work.
This position is classified as a Finance Manager.
Summary
Oversee the financial operations of the Iowa Judicial Branch.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure accurate reporting, compliance with regulations, and effective financial planning.
Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
Develop and manage the annual budget, financial forecasts, and variance analysis.
Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and cost-saving opportunities.
Oversee daily operations and workflow, establish priorities, and develop standards and deadlines.
Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals. Manage staffing, workload, and business operations priorities.
Collaborate with management to develop and implement financial strategies aligned with business goals.
Identify and mitigate financial risks.
Present financial reports and insights to stakeholders, including executive management.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of government accounting regulations, standards, and practices.
Ability to explain and apply GAAP.
Ability to develop long-term financial strategies and plans at a management level.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective presentation and communication skills.
Strong attention to detail.
This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch . Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.
Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise
Minimum Qualification Requirements
The incumbent must meet the minimum requirements to qualify for the position.
+ High school diploma (or high school equivalency diploma).
+ Ten years of experience in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, auditing, or closely related experience.
Experience may be substituted with related education on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of experience.
This position may be located remotely and is eligible for telework.
