Description
Overview
An Investigator is a vital member of the NYPL Security Team. In this role, the candidate will provide safety and security to patrons and members of the NYPL community. The candidate will be tasked with providing excellent customer service at all times with a helpful and empathetic attitude.
Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Senior Investigator, the Investigator will:
+ Patrol the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building to monitor security for staff and patrons and conduct door checks and investigations.
+ Investigate incidents or suspicious activities
+ Prepares reports of investigations and activities as directed by the Security Manager or his/her designee
+ Assists in the supervision of contract guards as well as NYPL security staff, including checking timesheets, ensuring posts are covered, and monitoring job performance
+ Trains and keeps staff up to date on current policies and information
+ Responds to incidents or emergencies with staff or patrons
+ Monitor surveillance cameras and CCURE system while on Desk Duty
+ May be required to work at any Library facility
+ Performs related duties as required
Required Education, Experience & Skills
Required Education & Certifications
+ High school graduation, supplemented by courses in Security Management, Police Science or Criminology, including substantial experience in investigative police work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
+ 8 Hour Security Training Certificate (Annual)
+ Security Guard Certification, New York State (Every 2 years)
Required Experience
+ Four years of successfully demonstrated security experience
Required Skills
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to exercise alertness and good judgment in cases of emergency,
+ Demonstrated experience dealing quickly, tactfully, and effectively with staff and the public.
+ Knowledge of the CCTV system, the Card access system, the C-Cure system, the Radionics system, and other Electronic and Physical security systems as needed.
+ Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the library.
+ Demonstrated accuracy and reliability.
+ Valid New York State Guard Registration.
+ Must pass a physical exam.
